We stopped leg kicking and hitting the ball out of the park. Defense had to play back because of the power and that allowed guys to drop a bunt down for a single.

We are about 5% improved slugging%, OBP, BA. Most of that is the new corner IF, which was ineffective last year.

That doesn't shock me and perhaps I can give an answer.

Part of the new philosophy is to quit swinging at bad pitches, especially early in the count. But even late in the count, a batter is going to take a close pitch if he feels it's not a pitch in his zone. As a result, you'll see more called third strikes, especially early in the season. I would expect this number will decrease as the season progresses.

This is a dumbass philosophy to anyone who has ever played even little league baseball. I REALLY hope that you just made this up and the coaching staff is not seriously instructing hitters this method.

Who’s in charge of making adjustments to pitchers? Is it an individual hitter thing or do the coaches lead the way? For instance the pitcher was grooving first pitch fastballs last night, would the players decide on their own to be aggressive on that first pitch?
