A New Orleans-based attorney has filed a lawsuit seeking to make NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell step in and force a replay of the end of the NFC Championship game between the Saints and Los Angeles Rams.

Lawyer Frank D’Amico filed a civil suit in New Orleans on behalf of Saints season-ticket holders which could theoretically make Goodell invoke NFL Rule 17, Section 2, Article 1 and compel both teams to return to New Orleans to replay the end of the game.

The rule allows the commissioner to take extreme action in the face of an unfair result. In this case, the unfair result would be the non-call on a clear pass interference by Rams corner Nickell Robey-Coleman on Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis on a third-and-10 play with 1:49 left in the game.

“The commissioner has the sole authority to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary and/or corrective measures if any club actions, non-participant interference, or calamity occurs in an NFL game which the commissioner deems so extraordinarily unfair or outside the accepted tactics encountered in professional football that such action has a major effect on the result of the game,” according to the rule.

I was in school with a Frank D’Amico in the early 90s at UL. Lafayette high grad. Is that the same one?

Doesn't appear to be the same. This one is an '83 Loyola grad.

  4. UL Football MADDENing

I thought I would be over it by today. Turns out, I keep finding more and more reasons to continue the five stages of grief after the Saints loss to the Rams in the NFC Championship game.

That game was fixed. No way two ref's from the west coast will let a call that gives a first down on the 3-4 yard line with under two minutes to play happen. That black ref. was five yards from the play with a side few of both the receiver and cheap shot ram player. The ball was 5-6 feet from them when the receiver was knocked on his A&&.........

  6. UL Football The Right To Complain About Brutal Non-Call Forever

The reporter asked a follow-up question: "You said you didn't see the play, correct?"

    Vinovich replied: "Correct."

That's all well and good, but the thing with the NFL is that there are cameras everywhere. Vinovich, as a referee who sees multiple camera angles on every replay, has to know that. So he had to have known that footage would emerge of him staring directly at the play.

Vinovich's answer was a complete and total cop-out. And it was also proven with video evidence to be a lie.

Los Angeles Ram cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman has been fined $26,739 for a controversial helmet-to-helmet hit that was not called during the NFC Championships against the Saints._

“It’s a judgment call by the officials,” Vinovich said. “I personally have not seen the play.”

    Sergeant Schultz "I know NOTHING!"

I've never felt that they would or should do something like play the last couple minutes over again and I feel that the lawsuits are a joke. What I have been wondering is why the league has not disciplined these guys or possibly terminated them to this point. Maybe firing any/all crew is drastic but certainly a suspension for X amount of games or months or whatever but they should be held to a standard as well and accountable for actions or in this case, non actions.
