If he were to do it from this point to Superbowl Sunday you are correct, its taking away from the event and teams present. I'm more concerned as to why he didn't come out over the past week with a statement and discipline. Quick and without much comment and he could at least send a message of acknowledgement. The man is paid $30 million+ per year and he needs to be at the forefront of ownership of this thing.
I agree that replaying the last two minutes was never going to happen. I just feel the NFL needs to hold accountable the refs for this embarrassment! Especially the ref that was standing right there! I stand by the fact that he was either paid off, or so grossly incompetent he should have never been on the field officiating a professional game! I would not still have a job if I would have screwed up that bad and put a black eye on the company I work for! I think this is definitely a fireable offense! I don’t understand how the NFL can justify fining the Rams DB for the hit yet the ref that stood there and watched the hit and did nothing has no repercussions!?!?! Especially with all this talk the NFL has done about increasing safety and decreasing concussions! Are they only concerned about the safety and well being of QB’s?
Do we know for sure that the referees were not fined or disciplined at all? Maybe they were and that information was not made public. I don't know, I'm just thinking that could be a possibility. Bad calls have always been a part of sports. This one was just REALLY BAD and at a REALLY BAD time.
As far as I know they haven’t been disciplined. You are right maybe it just hasn’t been made public. However, with the Rams DB fine being made public, basically admitting the call should have been made, I would think the NFL would want to clear their name and show they were trying to fix the mistake if they had disciplined the refs. I agree that human error has always been a part of sports, and sometimes calls go in your favor and sometimes they don’t. But with the timing of the play, and the fact that the ref was right there to witness the hit, i this this was the worst Non call I have ever seen in my life!!!! If the call was made correctly, we get 4 more tries for a TD, even if we have to settle for a FG we get to run more time off the clock! That one call (or non call) definitely affected the outdid the game
I see litigation, and the Saints being awarded 2 draft choices as reparation..
Comparing and contrasting deciding plays in AFC and NFC title games is mind-boggling process.
To me, accountability includes acknowledging publicly that the mistakes were made and announcing such discipline. Nothing wrong with transparency. Everyone knows who these guys are. Vinovic was getting heckled at the BYU basketball game he was refereeing this weekend. It would go a long way in easing the bad press the league is taking for it.
