OI’m 👁 to 👁
And it appeared that they were playing a good amount of freshmen & sophomores. Their team balance shows three freshmen, four sophomores, four juniors, and four seniors. Additionally, they show only guards and forwards on their roster but have a 6'9" senior, a 6'9" junior, a 6'9" sophomore, and a 6'8" freshman with most of the others balanced between 6'3" and 6'7". They won't take big hits in losses of players every year and their balanced size lets them play fast. They've always been able to recruit 3-point shooters which is an absolute must in the college game today.
As stated, we need to recruit MUCH better.
Some really good posts in this thread. Literally had this exact convo with someone yesterday morning.
If Justin Miller were to go down, he’d be the best player we’ve ever had and the team wouldn’t be able to win without him. I think we all understand that the team is better with MM, but the season should not be a total loss just because he went down. But you already see the posturing. Remember when Russell was the best recruit we signed out of HS in years? Yea, seems like a loooooong time ago.
Oh, it'll definitely be the talking point if we miss out on the postseason. We will miss out because "we lost Marquetti." Just like we heard how the Tech loss was due to "Gant getting hurt in the first half." Or better yet, some attempted to sugar coat the loss by mentioning that we had previously beaten Tech so many times before this match-up as if it justifies getting spanked by them at home.
Before the season, the talking point was the fact that any shortcomings would be due to losing Stove, Washington, and Bartley. And this was before the season even began! We hadn't even played a game yet. So, for those who wonder why people complain more about basketball, it's exactly this. There's always an excuse or a justification for underachievement within the program while these coaches are getting paid top notch salaries compared to our conference foes.
Quit making excuses, quit sugar coating our program as if we are some powerhouse, and go out there and earn your nice salary. Plain and simple.
Kobe was the only freshman we signed ready to be great. His injury was known, but Marlin had only role players and projects. So losing Marquetti, plus Kobe actually was a big hit. Now Cajuns Mike has documented that Russell had a preseason injury. No doubt he’s not hitting open threes like he did last year.
The projects, IMO was Gladney maybe viewed as a great redshirt freshman next year. Don’t know if we knew about his concussion issues. Clearly Lafayette seems a 3 year project if ever.
So losing Kobe last January was a big blow. It’s not one guy this year.
He’s gotta do a better job of getting freshman who can possibly be all conference at some point. And have significant freshman years
The worst part is the lazy defense. Multiple times gsu would dribble it up against a set defense make 1 pass to a guy for a wide open 3. Way too easy for d1 basketball.
