I don't. It tells me we don't know how to sustain.

I wouldn’t consider them overachievers. We have more than enough talent to accomplish our goals even with one injury.

Then what is this conversation about?

You can't write off the season at midseason on one hand, and not consider any end of season success surprising.

What you view as lack of sustain, is a coaching thing. Overachieve is a player thing.

If the coaches are deemed to have failed to sustain, yet somehow the team finds success, you are left with the players overachieving.

He doesn’t believe that these young men should be viewed as overachievers. That’s not what they were billed as on their signing. About the only scholarship player viewed as a role player was Lafayette. The only reason he was a role player was his weight.

Last year Russell was viewed as potentially all conference prior to the season. The year before Hardy, Miller, and the 3 transfers.

Davis was one of the best players in Mississippi and red shirt his freshman year.

This year Kobe, and Gladney were both considered great gets. Neither of course doing much due to injuries.

So to be fair Kobe, Marquetti, and Gladney could all be providing valuable minutes sans injury. Miller may never have been available with a sound back to begin with.

If then, there is "enough talent" the coaches have not failed to sustain.

Then all talk of this season's demise is premature and unwarranted.

It’s the coaches job to have the players ready. And if the players were to go out and succeed, it would just be the players and coaches doing their job.

For the past 3-4 years, our recruiting classes have been hyped to be good enough to withstand one injury. Guys like Miller, Davis, Stroman, Russell, Gant, and the likes should all have enough experience and talent to carry this team minus Marquetti. When I heard the excuse of Gant going down after getting blown out by Tech at home or Marquetti being hurt as justification for the Arkansas State loss, I knew that the narrative had been set. We are now losing games due to injury when that’s not the case.

As someone previously mentioned in another thread that the Marquetti injury is a justified excuse for our shortcomings, I’m not buying it.

Don’t agree. Injuries and missed talent evaluation are part of the game. Good coaches get enough players to overcome those issues most years. The Big Fish on the other hand mostly doesn’t.

Even though the season has yet to play out the odds are long.

Don't underestimate temporary loss of continuity when a player goes down. Especially two players over 3 games.

Projecting the end of the season prematurely would be unfair to everyone involved.

MAT, stop being a hater. We all know that making the postseason in basketball these days is as hard as trying to solve the Mayan calendar.
