Again, if Napier was on year nine and producing similar results; I would say the same thing. But he overachieved last year. We were picked to finish 4th in the West in a preseason poll and ended up winning the division. Meanwhile, Marlin is on year nine with no upside to his track record.

The fact that we are on year nine and are cashing out on a season due to one injury tells me all I need to know on where the basketball program is headed.

I don't think time is on his side

With all due honesty, I don't think we gauge a level of return just after 1 season, especially since 2019 will be our first year of full time recruiting.

Nine years with the program is true but misleading, yet the real number of years since the reset does not lessen the time to reload logic.

I know you’ve mentioned it before, but the injury to Marquetti and the dialogue that has gone with it tells me that either our coaching staff has underachieved in either recruiting or coaching up what we already have. There’s no way that one player should affect our season that much especially if our recruiting was hyped.
Players and coaches are not cashing it in. They are giving it there all. I am just being realistic that there chances for victory on many nights is limited. The recruiting in this freshman class may have been over rated.

But it wouldn’t just be one year of recruiting. It would be multiple years. That’s the frustrating part.

This is the year that shows up though as the injuries require depth that is just not there. People brought on in the previous years are contributing. Granted they are not All Conference guys. At least we have three HS freshman coming in that are higher rated than the guys we have brought in recently from HS. Four if you count Julien.

1 single busted recruiting year coupled with graduation of 3 starters minus 1 untimely season ending injury can thrust your team into a team of underclassmen overachievers.

What happens when you sell the farm to try and make a run.

Marlin was thinking he could coast for a few years off the back of a NCAA berth but it did not happen

The problem is that we have more than enough talent to carry the load outside of one injury. At least that’s what I was told by the coaching staff after every recruiting class......

I'm not ruling that out, but continuity from altered roles takes more than a week.

I would still consider them overachievers (as would everyone here) if success comes their way.
