Thread: LA1 Mylik Wilson Signs With Louisiana

  1. UL Basketball LA1 Mylik Wilson Signs With Louisiana

Wilson, a four-star prospect and the No. 1-ranked player by Rivals.com, averaged 18 points, five rebounds and eight assists as a junior, leading Rayville HS to a perfect 36-0 record. The 2018 Class 2A Player of the Year played summer basketball on the EYBL circuit for Woodz Elite where he averaged 12 points and three rebounds per game.

“Mylik is an athletic combo guard with a great wing span and is the top-ranked player in the 2019 class,” Marlin said. “He is disruptive on defense, rebounds at a high level and can score in a variety of ways.”

Lots of highlights of our basketball signee, Malik Wison in the attached link. It is the Rayville HS Twitter page. He is No.1 for Rayville. Most of these highlights are from a tournament Rayville is playing in which features teams from all over the country. I think they are 3 and 0 in the tournament right now. You have to be impressed with the athleticism the guy shows in these highlights. I know I have said I don't pay much attention to recruiting rankings and won't get too excited from his No. 1 in Louisiana ranking. However, I will admit I am very encouraged this guy can be a significant contributor on Day 1 by looking at his highlights.

Mike, I've been told by a couple of guys who cover recruiting that he is truly the real deal and that he will likely come in and potentially start from day 1. They say he is extremely athletic for his size, long and rangy and will help on defense and in transition immediately. Shooting is not his strength at this point but getting to the rim and finishing or kicking the ball out are and that's not a bad skill to have on our current team. Between he, Julien, Gladney and the transfer, it seems we will have several new guys step in and play immediately.

He is shown knocking down some threes in the highlights. Granted those are his top plays and they won’t show misses. Still, at least it indicates capabilitiy to hit a few. Everything else you mention is obvious. I spoke to a local HS Assistant Coach recently who also speaks highly of him.

Not saying he can't hit the open 3 but its not necessarily the strength of his game at this point.

Rayville loses in the Tournament of Champions final game to the nation's 16 ranked team in Belleville of Illinois. Final score was 84 to 73 and the halftime score was 34 to 33 in favor of Belleville. Wilson had another fine game however. He had 17 points 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocked shots. That stat line is impressive as it indicates he has a versatile game.

Wilson will be in Lake Charles Thursday with his team taking on Landry-Walker in the first round of Hamilton Christian Academy's annual "Showdown On The Lake" basketball tournament, one of the best in the State. It's an all Louisiana tournament with 12 semifinalists and 5 champions from last year's LHSAA Top 28. There will be some top-notch individual talent including Wilson, Hamilton Christian's junior PG Michael Thomas, Walker's PG Jalen Cook, Bossier's PG Jacoby Decker, Dunham's wing Jordan Wright and some other really good players I can't think of right now.

The tournament will be played at Hamilton Christian and the old Lake Charles High/LC-Boston gym. Game times are 4:00 pm, 5:30 pm, 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm

    at Hamilton Christian

    G1 Bossier vs North Central
    G2 Walker vs Red River
    G3 Hamilton Christian vs Richwood
    G4 Landry-Walker vs Rayville

    at Lake Charles-Boston:

    G1 Wossman vs Dunham
    G2 Peabody vs Carroll
G3 Scotlandville vs Lake Charles College Prep
    G4 Washington-Marion vs Woodlawn-Shreveport

Nobody is ever going to come over here to denigrate a recruit.

You guys are confusing demanding specific performance levels commensurate with UL's investment in the program with hate.

We are all fans of the program, we just have different definitions of success.
