He has played in 13 games. No way he gets a medical redshirt. Hope his rehab goes well so as he can make some money playing overseas or perhaps the G league. He is good enough to play at that level. I don't know if he has interest in that and may want to move on to things beyond basketball. Either way, the tenacity he has shown in working to improve here in many ways tells me he will be successful whatever path he takes.

Aweful news for him and the team. You know someone made an impact when the thought of him not playing makes the outlook of the season seem bleak.

  3. UL Basketball Re: Marquetti torn ACL

We've played almost half, about 40%, the regular season games. What's the limit on red shirt due to injury?

  4. UL Basketball Cajuns lose Marquetti for rest of season

One game before start of Sun Belt Conference play, Cajuns lose Marquetti for the season.

Believe it is 30 percent. Cajuns would have to play 40 games for that to come into effect. He is also a fifth year senior and will likely graduate soon. Probably wants to move on with his life at this stage.

    From the NCAA:

    Medical Hardship Requirements
To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.
So UL has played 13 games, and there are 18 left. So yeah, it looks like he's not eligible. What a shame.

You could flip the requirements and say any of these scenarios gets you back in.

"The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season."

Otherwise, the three game rule wouldn't apply if the injury were in the second half.

We would have to play 43 games for him to be granted a redshirt year by the 30 percent rule. Even if we won the conference tournament and national championship, maximum games we would play is 39. He is done, no debate here.

"First half of year" rule becomes irrelevant if to many games were played?

"Only played 2 games" becomes irrelevant if the injury occurred in the second half of the year?
