Malik had grown to be the toughest matchup in the entire league.
As a fifth year senior who had played in more than 30% of the teams games this year, his UL career is likely over.
I join everyone else in wishing him the best.

I echo everyone's sentiments here. Feel really bad for him with this happening in his senior season.
Crap. Get well Malik.
What do you suppose his chances are of getting a hardship? I'd imagine very slim, but conference play hasn't started yet, so maybe that could be in his favor? Guess we'll find out.
He has played in 13 games. No way he gets a medical redshirt. Hope his rehab goes well so as he can make some money playing overseas or perhaps the G league. He is good enough to play at that level. I don't know if he has interest in that and may want to move on to things beyond basketball. Either way, the tenacity he has shown in working to improve here in many ways tells me he will be successful whatever path he takes.
Aweful news for him and the team. You know someone made an impact when the thought of him not playing makes the outlook of the season seem bleak.
We've played almost half, about 40%, the regular season games. What's the limit on red shirt due to injury?
One game before start of Sun Belt Conference play, Cajuns lose Marquetti for the season.
From the NCAA:
So UL has played 13 games, and there are 18 left. So yeah, it looks like he's not eligible. What a shame.Medical Hardship Requirements
To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:
The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.
