That brings up the question why ramp up spending in a sport that we have no shot to move the needle cut it a drip and reinvested it into other sports.
It's the market. I'd break down the baseball brackets and paint that picture but obviously I wasted my time doing men's basketball. I'd do the women's, but hey, nobody cares. We're in a war on every front.

Not knocking you, was exactly where you are with this decades ago. Mid majors, G-5 or whatever you wish to call UL and their like brethren are in survival mode. I've given up as far as trying to make anyone understand, IMHO, every time someone gets all pumped up and pops a chubby over a possible G-5 championship or a mid major award or poll, it plays against everything this entire program has worked for since the late 70's, and even further back before USL was even a member of the NCAA. I cringe every time I see that.

That's the big picture. That’s the needle that matters.

I can't stand the buy in tournaments for basketball it does just as you say makes our team look like they play in FCS of basketball.

That's what I was getting at why not cut bait on sports that are in survival mode and try to focus on ones that matter and or have the best chance to see success.

We will know in the next 2 seasons, IMO we will be searching for a coach after the 2020 season.
Bet you a po boy that is not the case. Note, I have no inside knowledge of anything in this regard. Just my prediction. I do agree the thread has gotten off topic. Coach Marlin deserves to be congratulated for that honor. That is different than what is going on here now.

ALL our sports are in survival mode. Softball included. SEC just dumped a boatload across the league in stadiums, they want their ROI. Go look at those brackets last year.

I trust Maggard. I made the statement before he was hired it was THE most important hire since Terry Don Phillips. This is becoming reality. He has made outstanding hires and dismissals. If Maggard, who has made these other great decisions opted to give Marlin an extension and Broadhead more time, I'm not questioning him. He knows the landscape and the behind the scenes moves way better than we all do collectively.

Marlin EARNED an honor being recognized for an achievement that eventually helped him land here. I’d rather have that for any coach in any sport than one never recognized.

we know how you feel mike and that you are willing to bet won’t happen even though you have no knowledge of anything in that regard. This is all this is, people’s opinions. You don’t have to constantly state your opinion and then remind people you can’t see into the future. Nobody needs to. It’s weird you are only the thread police when people start stating their opinions, that differ from yours about bob marlin and basketball.

You are correct they are all in survival mode...baseball and softball are way better equipped to survive, imagine if they had more resources. As I’ve stated earlier i think the extension is semantics and the lowered buyout says much more about where Maggard sees the program and the crossroads. A good boss should be behind his employees %100 until they are no longer his employees, anything else would be foolish. Also agree marlin earned this honor and happy for him.

Not dismissing what Marlin did in the juco ranks just he may want to inquire about openings soon that is all ...the birds are talking and it usually means someone won't be long for their current post.

OK, I won't get into being a thread policeman. Are you willing to bet he is gone at the beginning of the 2020-2021 season?

You are dismissing Maggard extended him. Nobody other than a few here are predicting Marlin's demise. If Broadhead is safe, Marlin is certainly safe.

Then a six year run without an appearance, then nine until Marlin's 2014 team.

Am I ecstatic, no. This run isn't what I like but is within the norm of UL basketball. Even with Marty or Jessie, neither could get it done today any better than Marlin.

It would just be nice to give kudos for EARNING an honor, that like it or not, ends up with our university's basketball cosch's resume' attached to it.

Need something to really complain about? Should have been at that dumpster fire at the dome tonight. Team hasn't been able to shoot and/or possess in years.
That is an unacceptable result. You are saying for the money that has been spent to upgrade the Cajundome and the 500k we are paying Marlin, we should expect the same as before??????? If you want to continue to accept mediocrity, your on the right path. Unless Marlin wins the conference tournament this year, this will be 9 years with only 1 NCAA appearance....that horrible!!

Keep in mind the city paid 100% of the upgrade cost on the Cajundome.
