Football is without question one of the pillars to realignment...whatever that means anymore.

Look, when the cards fall the Cajuns and Tech will likely be together in a regional conference with the likes of Southern Miss. and Rice.

Our desire and strategy to become a member of the AAC is unprecedented to our history and we finally have all the pieces in place to make a legitimate case...unfortunately I just don't see the AAC either expanding or being plucked by P5 conferences. Therefore the above statement with a regionalized Sun Belt/CUSA is likely the future.

Even if there is a scheduling consortium of some kind in the next few years, conferences will still exist. The AAC will not expand unless some teams move up to P5 conferences. Even then, we would have to compete with a number of schools to get in.

I still think a more regionalized conference with our peers is better for all schools. Better for our fan base, attendance, travel, revenue and rivalries. And, a strong conference in other sports besides football. A sample SWC could look like this:

Louisiana, S Miss, Troy, Rice, Texas State, UTSA
LA Tech, Ark State, N Texas, UAB, MTSU, WKU

CUSA is no longer the goal.....with the size of the membership fee to join and the TV payout being no larger than the SBC TV contract it's just not worth it at this point. We have our sights set on another destination.

I think that's a pipe dream at this point. There's simply nowhere to go. Even if the P5 became the P4 by jettisoning off a few of its low achieving members, aligning with those cast away's in some sort of scheduling alliance wouldn't change anything. We'd still be in the group of have not's, though I guess we'd be in the tallest midget club.

I suppose I need to take back everything I said earlier about us needing to take heed of La Tech's bowl winning streak. Nothing anybody does at the G5 level will really change anything.

That's what I'm going to do. I'm going to quit worrying about things I can't change and do my best to have fun watching us win against whoever we're playing. If greatness awaits us, fantastic! If our fate is an eternity in a neutered G5, then so be it. Winning is fun no matter who the opponent is.

Nobody here should be laughing at this since there were (at best) 3k people in a 70k seat stadium for our bowl game. I'll hold on to my chuckles.
