I’m not a victim. I feel sorry for those who can’t support half of the athletic programs at any given time because said program isn’t great every year. But I’m glad y’all arent there. I hate sitting next to the guy that verbally complains the whole game like y’all do here. Just shut up and watch the game or go bang your head on a wall. If I want to constantly surround myself with negativity, I’ll stay home and watch the news all day.

If I fall and hurt my tailbone while sleeping with my wife it probably would be hard to watch. Luckily I can just shorten the game!!!😂😂

I was going to make a couple of games in January. Is it acceptable for people to go to the games or is my attendance a sign I am embracing mediocrity?

Some of that is organic, but it’s hard to not follow the basketball team. I’ve done it my entire life. The brutal truth is, the customer that will pay for a good or bad product dilutes the quality of said product for everyone. I realize that some fans just like everything that goes into following the program. But we need those certain kinds to be self aware. We have a mutual friend that fits this category. He knows his relationships and experiences make him biased toward the staff and program. But he doesn’t take it personally when guys like me make the observation that a segment of our fan base uses Cajuns basketball as a social club .

College basketball is a business, and should be run as a business. I’ve said it a million times. It is not good business to invest heavily (compared to peer investments) and continue to leave money on the table.

Honest Cajun basketball fans know, we have a problem. It’s deep rooted. 80% of our core fanbase is 50+. We can’t attract target demo because we don’t compete nationally, game day environment is like a Bingo Hall, OOC home opponents are unrecognizable and the SBC brand of ball is unwatchable.

Again, the only way to take advantage of the #2 revenue producing sport is to make the tournament. We don’t do that NEARLY enough. I don’t care that this is a 1 bid league. I should be able to expect, bare minimum , 3 appearances a decade. Considering the strength of this league, the money we spend, the history we have, the facilities we have...

A lot of people are sick of being stuck in the mud. And I’ve been quiet, but if we don’t make the tourney again this year, I’m going scorched earth when the season ends. And you may not think it matters, but I can assure you, it absolutely matters. As Jay Walker likes to say, “fans fire coaches”.
I agree the tournament is key and we have not made it often enough. Not sure this team has enough talent to win it this year. Saturday night showed what happens without Gant and an injury can happen anytime. I should clarify when I say what fans think don’t matter. Of course if enough people get the same idea things can change. When I say commenting on things have little impact, I say that in regards to this season only.

Do whatever you’re comfortable with. Just know that people supporting mediocre performance is fertilizer for massive failure in the future. Now if y’all think Maggard isn’t capable of hiring better than Big Fish I’d understand the reluctance.

Once again, self awareness alludes you. You are on a message board. The board is a tool/outlet for fans to discuss these exact topics. While complaining does happen here, this thread is not one of those times.

Also, I’ve not seen many say they flat out refuse to support the basketball program. For example, my son pestered me for a week to go to the LaTech game. Because our bowl plans fell apart, I took him. I could have bought the cheapest GA ticket, snuck in a pack of skittles and sat on my hands like the majority of our fan base does. We bought premium tickets, snacks, a shirt, and of course I had a couple beers. That is support sir. I would not spend foolishly like that on any other program in America. I did it because it’s UL.

All that being said, I would gladly get my season tickets back and join rebounders club if we’d make a true commitment to basketball. I would also be completely fine with the reality of cutting basketball money to give it to football and baseball. The constant defense of Marlin, the pretend commitment to basketball and the arrogance of our social club fans and coaching staff has completely turned me off. I am not the only who feels this way.

Your absolutely not the only one that feels that way. Thanks for reluctantly attending the game for the love of your son. I bet he enjoyed your company( and constant complaining) despite the outcome.

    **You’re. Anyway...

I don’t complain at basketball games.
When you’re irrelevant, complaining feels even more futile than usual.

Allow me to put an allegorical story in here that I think states the position held by me and several others with reference to the UL basketball program.

Think of UL Basketball as your child. He is a good kid; he never gives any trouble, makes good grades in high school, and tells you he wants to be a mechanical engineer. You love your kid, and you want the best for him, so you take the plunge and send him to Colorado School of Mines. You hock your house to pay his expenses, and you tell him that you and his mom are making great sacrifices for his future, and that you expect him to work hard and make the dean's list nearly every semester, and to become a great engineer.

Well, he gets to CSM and finds out that it is hard to make great grades in mechanical engineering. After a couple of years, having made the Dean's list only one semester, he changes his major to music appreciation, a major which only requires him to sit in class and listen to Classical Music for 9 hours a week, with an 'A' given for perfect attendance. Of course, he starts making the Dean's list every semester.

What is your response as his parent?

Mine, and I think MAT's, Express' and Fanatico's, would be to cut off his funding until he got his sorry butt back into a more challenging curriculum with a better future.

Yours seems to be to heap praise on him for making the Dean's list.

That was a good story. Would have been better if you could have worked smoking weed into it. I think the “major” marlin is in now is easy enough and he’s still not on the dean’s list. So no I’m not praising him. If a new coach is in our near future great. I won’t have to jump on the bandwagon because I never got off of it.

Geaux Cajuns 24/7 365 across the board!!! And all the enlightening y’all can push on me won’t change that, sorry guys. If I ever get tired of supporting this athletic program because it’s a frustrating lifestyle. I’ll just start fishing and playing more golf. As of now I’m all in on Cajuns and only Cajuns.

If one of my daughters puts me through your story, I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I fully understand but one flaw, you would not put your child in the or else I never want to see you again position.
