Too many players on this team fall into the “soft” category. We need some grit to replace Washington, Stove, and Bartley.
My bad for name calling. Lots of booze happen when you’re getting your asses pounded by schools you hate twice in one day.
I’m just done with the apologists, the excuses and the BS “explanations”. Y’all keep telling me we lost in the tourney last year because of injury. But we lost at home on senior night to the worst team in the belt, and one of the worst teams in D1 basketball a week prior. That night, we were told “emotions” got in the way and team wasn’t focused. (Which, give me a freakin break). If he couldn’t win big with that roster of talent, even without Gant, he can’t win big.
Fast forward to last night. We return 3 starters and 3 other guys that played significant minutes from last year’s team. We’re playing a team with a first year coach and 2 starters not dressed out. On top of that, we’re all well versed on how “hard it is to win on the road in CBB” and we all know how “scared ppl are to come and play us in our building”. With all that in mind, we got demolished. The game wasn’t competitive. If Gant is that big a part of this team, who’s shoulders does that fall upon?? You can’t build a team this reliant on one guy and expect to compete year in and year out.
This is what happens when you schedule pillow fights with Roast Beef Tech and Ham Sandwich U.
This is year 9 folks. YEAR NINE.
Either tell me we don’t care about basketball at this school, tell me we’re sandbagging for other sports or make a god damned commitment and find a coach that can compete nationally. Absolutely done with the milktoast BULL____.
We do seem to rely too much on the point guard penetrating and finding an open guy. Without Gant, that was not a good recipe. Would like to see more movement of guys away from the ball, less dribbling, and more crisp passing. As far as Tech's offense is concerned, they were hot last night. However, much of that came from poor offensive possessions by the Cajuns resulting in not being in position defensively. When you force the other team to take the ball out from under the basket frequently you can set your defense. That was very rare last night. Even with Gant, Bulldogs are simply a better team this year and would win a 7 game series.
This 1000000x
Maybe, we can schedule better teams to come play in the Cajundome now since Tech showed the rest of the country that teams can win there. LOL
Also, our coaching staff needs to get off the high horse. This idea that they throw around that teams “celebrate like they win the Super Bowl after beating the Ragin’ Cajuns” or “teams are scared to play us in the Cajundome” is insulting to the fan base. For $500k a year in the Sun Belt, you have to produce. If you can’t, either lower the salary or find someone who can compliment the pay scale.
If we are not serious about basketball, we should not be paying $400k+ for a coach. If we ARE serious about hoops, we should be demanding our money's worth from that $400k+ coach.
Scheduling teams who aren't good enough to be called cupcakes and having a 9 year losing record against top 200 RPI teams is NOT delivering our money's worth. One regular season championship and one NCAA appearence in 9 years is not delivering our money's worth. Making excuses when we get our asses handed to us on our home court by slightly above average teams is not delivering our money's worth.
I canceled my season tickets after last year because it is the only real voice I have to express my displeasure. I pull for our players every game, but I refuse to monetarily support basketball as long as Marlin is still the coach.
For all you people who say "What Southern mid- major can we emulate?" I give you this: We are paying a coach over $400k/yr to build a successful Southern mid-major that others can emulate. It is his damn JOB to make us relevent. If he can't do it, we need to hire someone who can.
