I typically don't respond to these type of treads. While I like football and baseball, basketball is the sport I am most passionate about. What I saw last night was a team that does not have enough talented depth. We don't have any "bigs" besides Gant. I am very worried about next years team because we still have not signed anyone to take Gant's place. I was expecting our young players to show improvement this year to help replace the departing seniors from last year which has not happened. No one has stepped into the leadership roles that last year's seniors had. I don't see the "refuse to lose" mentality that we had last year. I don't see the cohesiveness that we had last year. I see a bunch of individuals not working as a team. I think Malik and Marcus did everything they could last night--the issue is Malik, Marcus and JeKeenan are quite leaders--we are missing vocal leadership. Our recruiting must improve--we need to recruit some bigs that can help rebound and protect the rim. Every year, I contribute a large amount of money to the basketball program. Based on the results I am seeing, I don't think that will continue.
Thanks for the post. I have seen a handful of games and my observations are the same as yours. One additional problem is the lack of production from the SG position. If you were recruited for your 3pt prowess...you need to take and make a few. We have not replaced any of our departed seniors.
Too many players on this team fall into the “soft” category. We need some grit to replace Washington, Stove, and Bartley.
My bad for name calling. Lots of booze happen when you’re getting your asses pounded by schools you hate twice in one day.
I’m just done with the apologists, the excuses and the BS “explanations”. Y’all keep telling me we lost in the tourney last year because of injury. But we lost at home on senior night to the worst team in the belt, and one of the worst teams in D1 basketball a week prior. That night, we were told “emotions” got in the way and team wasn’t focused. (Which, give me a freakin break). If he couldn’t win big with that roster of talent, even without Gant, he can’t win big.
Fast forward to last night. We return 3 starters and 3 other guys that played significant minutes from last year’s team. We’re playing a team with a first year coach and 2 starters not dressed out. On top of that, we’re all well versed on how “hard it is to win on the road in CBB” and we all know how “scared ppl are to come and play us in our building”. With all that in mind, we got demolished. The game wasn’t competitive. If Gant is that big a part of this team, who’s shoulders does that fall upon?? You can’t build a team this reliant on one guy and expect to compete year in and year out.
This is what happens when you schedule pillow fights with Roast Beef Tech and Ham Sandwich U.
This is year 9 folks. YEAR NINE.
Either tell me we don’t care about basketball at this school, tell me we’re sandbagging for other sports or make a god damned commitment and find a coach that can compete nationally. Absolutely done with the milktoast BULL____.
