La Tech will still be collecting its pennies for the next few years to recoup all of the money they are going to lose on the Hawaii Bowl

The other teams can go to the New Orleans Bowl if we are not bowl eligible. The massive crowds are a good look for the entire Sun Belt and it separates and elevates the entire league. Our attendance and impact on the New Orleans Bowl has obviously been noticed by Sport Illustrated. It is also cool that Sports Illustrated considered the New Orleans Bowl (at least when we played in it) the kick-off to the Bowl season. The other Sun Belt teams should be happy for this exposure and not demand changes at the expense of the conference. When App. State, Georgia Southern, Troy and/or stAte can bring 35,000 plus fans to any bowl game, then we can listen to their cries of unfairness. Until then . . . a full stadium in the New Orleans Bowl is a good look for the whole conference and Sports Illustrated (for one) has noticed.

    Agreed

The "perception" of fairness to the conference champion will cost the bowl and the conference dearly at the ticket booth

    Very well-stated indeed.

Add to that, every single school that plays football in the Belt makes more money at the end of the year when the Cajuns are in the New Orleans Bowl. How you might ask? Because since the conference saw that we made out like bandits on our first bowl game there, they changed the rules and have been dividing the proceeds (gains from the bowls) equally amongst all football members to help cover those with poor showings and major expenses.

I understand that, but let's be honest about this. The New Orleans Bowl, and all Sun Belt members, benefit when we're invited.

That was such a money grab of Cajun fans. Greedy teams never wanted a split until our big payday.

Was Louisiana a good match up for Louisiana Tech in the New Orleans Bowl this year or were they scared to play another Louisiana team again? Remember the New Orleans Bowl didn’t have to choose the champion until Louisiana Tech’s season was over.

Skippy was quoted on their fan site as saying that if the Independence Bowl wasn't an option for them, they wanted Hawaii. A lot of speculation over there was that he wanted Hawaii because their fans are so po'd about their overall performance this year and likely wouldn't attend any bowl game in significant numbers unless it was against a P5 team.

In all honesty, they may have bailed us out this year. We have a built in excuse for poor attendance in Orlando. If we were in Nola we wouldn’t have had that. If we were in Nola this year, I don’t think we come close to past numbers. Jmo

Good things happen sometimes for bad reasons. JMO, however but this year the Sunbelt is sending to NO the only Sunbelt bowl team who does not have a rats ___ chance of traveling there with a good crowd. Any of the other 4 bowl teams can drive to NO, App can't. All Sunbelt teams will suffer financially because of that decision. App should have been in either Arizona or Orlando, period.

App fans will have trouble traveling anywhere with the snow storms they have recently been hit with. I believe another is headed their way.
