Thread: Dallon Cambry

Coach Segrest’s son is a starting DL for STM & Dallon Cambry was just offered a preferred walk-on spot. Don’t know about the past but times are changing because of Napier.

I didn't follow STM closely but from the little bit Ive seen, I would say probably STMs 3rd or 4th best receiver this year? With the receiving core they have it would be very difficult for a QB not to look way above average. I'd like to see Holstein with a very average high school receiver core and see how he'd look.

Just curious, what's a preferred walk-on spot? Are there walk-on spots that coaches prefer you not use, i.e. we prefer you go elsewhere?

His frame is probably the best suited for college ball outside of senegal. Not sure about your logic on the making holstein play with an average receivers. I like seeing him hit good receivers in stride who are running clean routes rather than playground pitch and catch. JMO.

Preferred walkons are basically guaranteed a spot on the team. If the roster does not get filled in this manner, tryouts can be held in order to complete it. Guys who get on the team via the tryout route are not "preferred".

Just to get a fair comparison with other HS QBs. I think he is way over rated in accurace and his receivers bail him out. Most high school defenses don't have enough DB to cover all of them and he throws to wide open guys 90% of the time. That is easy. When he is playing with receivers that are actually covered, and he needs to put it in a tight space, as will be the case in college, he will struggle. Just my opinion from the few games and 7 on 7s Ive seen him in. I personally rather see him on his back.

First off, it is Dalen Cambre. My nephew is a Jr on the STM team, so I have made a couple of games live, but also watched a lot of film. As far as Seniors go, STM has 5-6 guys that have potential to play D1 at some point, IMO. None are D1 impact players as true Freshmen.

Cambre, Senegal, Mahtook, Cryer, Arceneaux & maybe Segrest. Senegal is the most talented, but isn't a 'baller' IMO. Cambre, Mahtook, Cryer & Arceneaux are talented and ballers. Segrest has the size you would like, but I just don't see the fast-twitch you are looking for. He is extremely technically sound, but doesn't jump out at you on the field or film.

Holstein is an interesting player. I don't see the athleticism I would like to see in a QB, but he can be successful for sure. This is more of a personal preference, he can definitely spin it. La Tech is currently in the lead in his mind.

I thought it meant when a guy says I thought about going to Petes but changed my mind because I preferred walk ons?
