IIRC, both the long runs were on 3rd down and one of them was right before the half. Back breakers.
I don't necessarily think we need turnovers to win the game. I think we need to eliminate big plays, and get ahead early. Those two things are imperative. App St does not have the fire power that we have offensively. We have 3 homerun hitters at skill positions, and we have a staff that knows how to use them. If we get them in a situation where they have to score to keep up, we have a major advantage. Thomas will not beat us in the air.
If we score 21 points or more I’ll be extremely shocked. Barring a meltdown by app state they will win this game. I love our team and our staff. What they’ve accomplished this year is definitely something to be proud of and the future looks bright. This weekend however, we are not on Apps level. We need turnovers and a little luck to have a chance here.
We actually held them to 4/13 on third downs. The TD catch was right before half. Thomas beat us with his legs and scrambling ability which was a weak point of the defense early in the year. I think we load the box and keep a spy on him while keeping Garror and Jacquet on an island with safety help.
I suggest anyone thinking App hasn't given up rushing yards, go back to the Ga. Southern game. 277 rushing yards, 5.5 a clip. Sure, its a triple option offense, but you can bet Napier and staff have studied that film several times. Besides, the blocking up front with UL's offense and the triple option isn't all that different. And don't forget, UL's screen game is very effective in getting backs out is space, just like hitting the second level with an interior run.
This analysis looks like one based upon our play for the first 4 games of the season. Vegas is still "lining us" on that same analysis.
I believe that we are much more the team that played the last 8 games and now even more the team that has showed up beginning with the Arky St game. We will be in this game and a good game plan and execution will place us in a position to win this game. This coaching staff and this team will be ready. They have come too far this year to let their guard down in the SBC Championship game.
I get that we started winning more over the last half of the season. But to keep it in context, we just missed overtime in Monroe by them missing a make able field goal. Again, I love our team and believe we will be the App state of the Sun belt in the next 2 years but I’m not as optimistic about our chances as some of you guys are. Regardless of my prediction, I’ll be watching the game pulling for the good guys!
Dude, we played probably our worst game (execution wise), got our worst performance from our starting QB, turned it over, dropped a pick 6 (and possibly got robbed out of another), played our most undisciplined game (being penalized in crucial situations), got stopped twice down deep in our redzone on 4th down (because of overthinking the play IMO) and still scored 17. You'll be shocked if we score 21????
Wrong. We were blowing Monroe out of their own building until Malone fell down on a timing route and ULM DB lucked into a pick six. That game was a walkover until that moment. I'll give ULM credit for fighting in the second half, but go look at the stats. We dominated that football game. (At half, total yardage was 337 to 127).
