UL to win the sun belt - pre season prop bet is still in play! It was 18 to 1
App makes a living on not allowing teams to run the football. I think this is one of those games where we throw it early to loosen them up a bit.
What makes them so good defensively is their speed. You really have to be special to run wide against them.
We also allowed their RB to get 120+ if I remember right. That number has to come down.
And, yes, we need to win the turnover battle. But we've been turning teams over lately, so that can be done, I think.
You're right about Evans. He busted two big runs, but other than that, I didn't think we played the run too poorly. Thomas' ability to find the open gaps and push the pile for 5-6-7 yards makes them incredibly tough to defend on 3rd down (although we did a great job on 3rd down last meeting - I think they were something like 4 for 13).
Double checked. Evans got 180 against us.
Look, if we play as well defensively as we did the last time we were up there the Cajuns will have a chance to win. We must get better production from Nunez. He missed on some really easy 3rd down conversions.
His long runs were 65 and 25 plus a 20 yard TD catch. Everything else was minimal yet effective
IIRC, both the long runs were on 3rd down and one of them was right before the half. Back breakers.
I don't necessarily think we need turnovers to win the game. I think we need to eliminate big plays, and get ahead early. Those two things are imperative. App St does not have the fire power that we have offensively. We have 3 homerun hitters at skill positions, and we have a staff that knows how to use them. If we get them in a situation where they have to score to keep up, we have a major advantage. Thomas will not beat us in the air.
