From the been there and done that crowd, I prefer Mobile if New Orleans is not an option. It's drivable for Cajun fans in Louisiana.

We have gone to mobile a handful of times for football and baseball games and always had a good time. The downtown area has enough entertainment options for everyone and is actually pretty fun with a group of people.
