FIU, Toledo to play in 2018 Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl

The FIU Golden Panthers and the Toledo Rockets will play in the 2018 Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl, it was announced on Sunday.

The game is set for Friday, Dec. 21 at Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. ESPN will televise the game beginning at 12:30pm ET.

Per the Bahamas Bowl, the early announcement of the matchup "…allows both FIU and Toledo additional time to prepare to play in an international destination, including obtaining passports for those who still need them to travel to the Bahamas as well as giving extra time for fans to make their travel plans to Nassau for bowl week."

FIU, led by head coach Butch Davis, finished the season 8-4 overall and 6-2 in Conference USA action. This will be the fourth bowl appearance for the Golden Panthers.

"We're thrilled for our team to play in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl – which is our second-consecutive bowl game – and get a chance to enjoy the Bahamian culture," FIU Head Coach Butch Davis said. "The Atlantis resort is one of the best facilities in the world and we're excited to enjoy their hospitality. Toledo is a very good football program and our kids are excited for the challenge. Hopefully, this provides our team with an opportunity to cap the season on a high note."

Toledo is led by head coach Jason Candle, who guided the Rockets to a 7-5 record this season (5-3 MAC). This will be the 18 bowl appearance for Toledo and fifth-straight.

That looks like a terrible venue for a football game.

Dunno, looks to me like all 150 fans are enjoying the game, at least those who can actually make out the football players on the field.

UH likely to face Louisiana Tech in Hawaii Bowl

The Hawaii Bowl is reportedly close to announcing Louisiana Tech as the University of Hawaii's opponent for the Dec. 22 game, according to people briefed on recent developments.

Tech fans seem generally pleased with this outcome because they're not overly excited about watching their team compete in a bowl this year. Playing in Hawaii now also gets that monkey off their backs for a number of years to come. And finally, there was always the possibility of the dreaded news that they'd be matched up with the Monrovians and have to run away peeing their panties again.

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday that the runner-up team in Saturday’s inaugural Sun Belt Football Championship Game between Appalachian State and Louisiana will play in the 2018 AutoNation Cure Bowl.

“Being able to play in the AutoNation Cure Bowl will culminate a great season by one of these fine championship teams.” said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Karl Benson. “Since the bowl’s establishment in 2015, the Sun Belt representative has always been treated to a first-class experience and this year will be no different.

This year’s edition of the AutoNation Cure Bowl will take place on Dec. 15 at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT and the game will air on the CBS Sports Network.

So, looks like either New Orleans Bowl or the Cure Bowl for us.

It most definitely is. Ladd Peoples is pretty creepy and Montgomery didn't excite much either.

Wanna sell the wifey on the trip? Just mention Disney World for the kids. If we're in it, hopefully we'll face one of the better AAC teams.

Even better if you have a middle school aged kids. You can stay with the team and do universal studios without leaving the campus.

If it does end up being the Cure Bowl (which it wont, we're winning Satuday), it's really a good opportunity of our football team. Take away the proximity of Mobile, and literally everything else about the situation is better in Orlando. Better experience for the players, more to do for families that can make the trip, most certainly play a better team (AAC opponent, a conference we desperately want to be a part of, on national TV) and it might rejuvenate the portion of the fanbase that were "tired of the NOLA Bowl".

Don't forget, Orlando is a huge media market, lots of exposure to be gained, and in a rich recruiting area.

Being that the two bowls we are paired up with are on Dec. 15th, does that mean we have less postseason practice time than other teams with later bowl dates? Or is every team allotted 14 extra practice days?

  14. Default Re: Official Ragin Pagin 2018-19 Football Bowl Match-Up & Discussion Thread

Quit worrying about practice. Ya can only do so much in two weeks and travel dates. They’re certainly not going to give us post bowl catch up practice days.
