Can't get assists with no passing. Halfcourt game in the second half. Cajuns did a poor job of moving the ball. 1 to 2 passes and drive to the basket, which was well defended.

Every team that forces us into a half court game will kick our ___. We have no coherent half court offense. This has been an issue with Marlins teams since day one.

This was glaringly obvious last night. Nobody posting up down low, no inside/out passing, no movement without the ball. Live and die by the 3

When shooting the 3 at an 18% success rate, it will be more of an "and die by the 3"

Back to tonight though 5 total assists as a team and only 11 FT attempts, it’s a miracle they put up 64 points.
Russell is a shooting guard known for making 3's. He barely shot. It is near impossible to win in college basketball getting that little production from his position.

I was just encouraged to see him get more involved overall in the offense. Of course his specialty is shooting, last year as a spark off of the bench doing nothing but shoot the ball was fine. Now as the starting 2 guard I would hope that he won’t be so one dimensional. Last year I reffered to him as Hayward Register 2.0 (he had a better shooting %). Not being able to do anything but shoot is why Register never developed into a starter here.

They did control tempo and made it a deliberate game. Huge advantage to Rockets in that scenario. Still, we had plenty of open looks and could not knock them down. All the problems stem mostly from that fact. Last night showed how much we miss Bartley. He had a tendency to knock one down at a critical time. Every team loses players and you have to replace them in order to have a consistent program. So far this year, no one has stepped up to his level.

While I am not a coach, I don't think he is doing enough to get open for his shot. He needs to be much more active away from the ball in order to be able to catch and shoot. At times he seems to be passing up shots. On the positive side, I think he has improved defensively over last year.

Mike, I have not really had a chance to see the cajuns play outside of the UVI and a portion of Kansas. How is this year's offense different from last year. Last year we had Stroman penetrating the lane and getting the ball moving if something inside was not open and we also had sets where we were running Bartley off of screens and getting cuts to the basket. Is that not being done this year? I wouldn't understand not running that similar offense again. We have similar personnel.

As disappointing as last night's game was, let's hope they can regroup today and beat the Greenies today. It would be a real downer to lose to them after last night's result.
