Despite the NFL’s considerable interest in him, Lincoln Riley has talked all along like a coach with no intention to leave Oklahoma.

He has now put his money where his mouth already was.

Oklahoma on Tuesday announced an extension and raise for its second-year head coach. Terms are still being finalized and were not disclosed. He made $4.8 million in 2018 and was set to make $4.9 million in 2019.

“We felt it important to extend and amend Lincoln’s contract at this time as we want him at the University of Oklahoma for a long time,” said OU president James Gallogly. “He is a great coach and role model for our student-athletes. His record of success speaks for itself.

    Update at West Virginia

Sources told FootballScoop over the past two days that Troy head coach Neal Brown and Cincinnati Luke Fickell are strong candidates at this time. Other outlets have reported their candidacy as well.

Brown, just 38 and 31-8 in his past three seasons at Troy, has been a candidate for a number of Power 5 jobs over the past year but, for one reason or another, hasn’t been able to make a match. The Dec. 23 SB Nation article sums it up nicely: “How the hell is Neal Brown still at Troy?” Perhaps the stars were aligning for this job, as Brown’s system would allow him to slide ride in at WVU with little to no disruption.

From everything I’ve heard, Neal Brown will in fact be the next HC at WVU. Expect an official announcement no later than tomorrow afternoon. #HailWV (@StrictlyWVU) https://t.co/ShrlFiOgcn

    I was thinking more of a nut-kick.

To me, seems damned late in the cycle to start searching for a new coach who will then have to start searching for a staff of assistants. Not impossible by any means, but still.

This certainly will make the Sun Belt East race even more interesting this year and by extension, the entire run to the championship as well.

Well recruiting is pretty much done for Troy , and WVU so I imagine Troy has a couple guys in mind. You’d be foolish not to as a lowly G5 program. For all we know that replacement is already drawing a check from Troy.

If I were running things at Troy, I would consider Will Hall at Tulane. He was successful at West Georgia, Tulane and Memphis. He's been recruiting the area for years and he's only 38!

You would have nothing to lose with it being so late in the coaching carousel.

With their current Roster, Hall wouldn't be a bad choice.

Sources: Manny Diaz has hired his defensive coordinator

Blake Baker, the 32-year old defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech who is very well regarded as a fast riser in the coaching profession, is being brought in as Miami’s new defensive coordinator, sources share with FootballScoop. Baker and Diaz previously worked together in Ruston, and Baker was elevated to defensive coordinator in 2015 following Manny leaving for the defensive coordinator spot at Mississippi State. The two were also on the same Texas staff in 2011, where Manny was the defensive coordinator and Baker served as defensive graduate assistant working with the linebackers and defensive backs.

I would imagine that very few college football coaches below the head coach level ever actually buy a home.
