Eli's comin'.
Eli's comin'.
I don't know your sources, but Billy Napier was the first guy I heard. Then it went silent until just before the hire. But that's just water under the bridge.
We're absolutely going to be rewarded with the Billy hire. I'm thinking at some point he's going to be considered a top five coach nationally who led us to great days.
Will there be any staff changes for Nape after year 1?
My "sources" all originated on-line as I have zero connection with anyone in the athletic department. The first time I heard the name Billy Napier was about 2 minutes before the presser with Maggard to make the announcement. I'm not saying it wasn't mentioned early-on, I just never saw it nor do I believe it gained any traction if it was mentioned.
There were a lot of names mentioned and articles linked, but from what I recall, former Cajun coaching staff member Brent Pry was the name most often mentioned.
Have to give Clutch some credit, he mentioned Napier in a thread about 2 weeks prior to the announcement. Not a single person in our admin had Billy on the radar until a certain phone call was made and Maggard met with Napier. Days after, he was signed. In fact, another coach had a contract being drafted when "the phone call" happened.
I can't argue because I can't support my argument without revealing names.
There was another coach with a verbal offer from our admin and a contract was being drafted. Saban called Maggard. The rest is history. Napier was not a target or a thought when Hudspeth was fired.
