Seeing all the Briles baggage talk, while not related, it reminded me about the old sheriff from St. Landry Parish - Cat Doucet.

True story. One day, a reporter from the Times Picayune cornered him for an interview. She said, Sheriff Doucet, we understand that you are knowingly allowing houses of ill repute to operate in your parish. He said, you can quote me "a little poosie never hurt nobody." He then said, "she never quoted me"

When you hire Briles, you hire his reputation.

    From Footballscoop:

When we last left the Texas State search, the Bobcats were making a strong push to hire Kendal Briles. Since then, sources have told FootballScoop that Houston has made a strong push to keep its offensive coordinator.

Still, even if Briles is off the table, that pursuit is indicative of the track this search is following.

Texas State has also spoken with South Florida offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert and Ole Miss offensive coordinator Phil Longo, but sources told FootballScoop Wednesday that West Virginia offensive coordinator Jake Spavital has emerged as a strong target for the Bobcats.

All three have experience in the state of Texas. Gilbert is a San Angelo, Texas, native who began his career in the Texas high school ranks and spent one season as the Texas offensive coordinator. Longo came to Ole Miss from Sam Houston State, where he was FootballScoop’s FCS Offensive Coordinator of the Year in 2016. Spavital is an Oklahoma native who spent one season as a graduate assistant at Houston and three as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas A&M.

Interesting. One wonders if the only consideration was pay or the fact that the Texas State AD and those above appear to be complete numbskulls when it comes to athletics. Never has a school with so much done so little for so long.

Houston: Offensive coordinator Kendal Briles has agreed to a contract extension and a raise that would place him among the top 30 paid offensive coordinators in college football, per GoCoogs.com. Fox 26 adds that Briles will continue as associate head coach / offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach. As we mentioned this morning, Briles had garnered interest for the opening at Texas State, but Houston was making a run at keeping him.

They won't get a guy like Briles until they get rid of their AD.

Which was basically why I asked the question. That guy seems so out of place in that job. Have you seen any of the videos of his press conferences? Scary crazy he seems.

They will pull an Southland coach and Teis will act like that's who he wanted all along.
where in reality all the others just used the job interview for a raise and had no intention to be their HC

Central Michigan apparently fired their head coach last Friday. And here's the rest of the story....heads up to Jay Walker:

Central Michigan football coach John Bonamego was fired on Friday night. The program made the decision after a 1-11 season, and a 51-13 loss to Toledo on Friday.

Apparently the situation grew even nastier than the poor on-field results at the MAC program.

According to a report by student publication Central Michigan Life, an incident earlier in the year led to Paulette Bonamego, the head coach's wife, to be banned from the stadium.

Paulette Bonamego, wife of former head football coach John Bonamego, was banned from Kelly/Shorts Stadium for much of this season following an Oct. 13 altercation with Central Michigan play-by-play broadcaster Don Chiodo in the press box.

When Chiodo left the broadcast booth for a bathroom break, the coach's wife stopped him in the hallway. She was upset at Chiodo's on-air comments surrounding the CMU football team's effort against Ball State.

Witnesses told CMU Athletics staff she continued making a scene and yelling at Chiodo. During the altercation between the two, she told Chiodo that she and coach Bonamego could return to the National Football League at any given time if they wanted to.

No physical contact was made, but the head coach's wife was banned from Kelly/Shorts Stadium after CMU's Week 7 loss to Ball State.

LOL. Now they're free to return to the NFL.

Looks like ECU is hiring USM's AD who will then likely can ECU's head football coach.

    ....................................................

The East Carolina Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, reportedly to approve the contract of a new athletic director.

According to several sources with knowledge of the situation, Southern Mississippi athletic director Jon Gilbert is the expected to be the choice to fill the position that has been vacant since Jeff Compher was asked to resign last March.

Gilbert has ties to ECU special consultant Dave Hart, having served under him as executive senior associate athletic director when the two were at Tennessee. They also worked together previously at Alabama.

The timing will allow Gilbert to make an evaluation of the Pirates' struggling football program and presumably hire his own coach once Scottie Montgomery is fired as expected following Saturday's season finale at NC State.
