I live in Morgantown and WVU can certainly pay $4mil, the facilities are very nice and they get a ton of money from the Big 12. The sense of the fans I know and what I've seen of Holgerson is that you'll only get 8-9 wins per season. He's only had two 10 win seasons and one was with Bill Stewart's team, he has a pretty bad bowl record. Also, no Big 12 championships with Texas being down for quite a while, ZERO wins against OU. This team was his best by far with Grier and Sills back and the best defense he's ever had and he lost the last three games of the year.

I am surprised he left to go to AAC. If WVU had won out they would have been in the conversation for the playoff but they pooped the bed instead. He will never be in the conversation at UH.

I'm not excited that he's gone but I feel that WVU could do better, but as with all coaching hires that's to be determined later if it worked out well or not.

8-9 wins per season may be the max WVU can attain in the Big 12 regardless of who is coach. They have nice facilities but that pales compared to Texas and OU.

Could be very true, which is why I said it's to be determined if the hire will be better.

WVU can pay $4mil but won't for Holgerson and it's easy to see why when you look at his record.

Comparing about 95% of the facilities in the country to OU and Texas is a pretty fruitless exercise.

Supposedly Holgorsen still has a home in Houston and remains good friends with Fertitta from his OC days under Sumlin. That coupled with the fact that he doesn’t think he could get a much better team in Morgantown (this was “the year”) left him feeling the administration was getting restless. Perfect time for him to get back down south and leverage for more money while doing it.

Former South Stallion and Mohigan myself.

I'd agree with this analysis 100%, he was on the hot seat especially after the performance with what some think could have been the best WVU in many a year, if ever.

Can't? Seriously? WVU gets a $25 million check from the Big 12 every year.

Houston knows what's on the horizon they are making a statement with this hire showing the P5 they should be included in the next realignment. Regardless of how successful Holgorsen is at UH this positions them to have a seat at the table.

Sounds like a solid assessment on your part. Plus, if the article I posted is accurate and he feels he can do a better job of recruiting the talent he needs right there in the state of Texas, he'll have less stress putting together his teams.

The bar's set pretty high at Houston. We'll see if he can clear it. If not, next man up.

Despite the NFL’s considerable interest in him, Lincoln Riley has talked all along like a coach with no intention to leave Oklahoma.

He has now put his money where his mouth already was.

Oklahoma on Tuesday announced an extension and raise for its second-year head coach. Terms are still being finalized and were not disclosed. He made $4.8 million in 2018 and was set to make $4.9 million in 2019.

“We felt it important to extend and amend Lincoln’s contract at this time as we want him at the University of Oklahoma for a long time,” said OU president James Gallogly. “He is a great coach and role model for our student-athletes. His record of success speaks for itself.

    Update at West Virginia

Sources told FootballScoop over the past two days that Troy head coach Neal Brown and Cincinnati Luke Fickell are strong candidates at this time. Other outlets have reported their candidacy as well.

Brown, just 38 and 31-8 in his past three seasons at Troy, has been a candidate for a number of Power 5 jobs over the past year but, for one reason or another, hasn’t been able to make a match. The Dec. 23 SB Nation article sums it up nicely: “How the hell is Neal Brown still at Troy?” Perhaps the stars were aligning for this job, as Brown’s system would allow him to slide ride in at WVU with little to no disruption.
