Thread: Hoops adds three signees

  1. UL Basketball Hoops adds three signees

The UL Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Wednesday the addition of three players, including the No. 1-rated high school prospect in the state of Louisiana, to a National Letter of Intent for the 2019-20 season.

Inking with the Ragin’ Cajuns on the first day of the National Signing Period are combo guard Mylik Wilson (Rayville/Rayville HS), guard Javonne Lowery (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS) and forward Chris Spenkuch (Miami, Fla./Miami Norland HS).

This is the good news I referred to in the Rebounders tidbit thread. Some coaches believe the kid from Texas may end up making the biggest contribution.

The player from Rayville is a big get as well. He’s a 4 star who helped them to an undefeated season last year.

The last two classes have been a step up in recruiting for Coach Marlin and his staff. If he can add a few transfers in the post, he will be competing at the top of the SBC the next four years if all remain in healthy and in the program.

I understand the Wilson kid is a nice addition as some think he is the best player in Louisiana. Projections of how they will develop is a guessing game.

I like what I'm hearing about the kid from Florida. The basketball IQ of Bryce and the athleticism of Grant ... YES PLEASE!!

Here's a link to Mr. Lowery's twitter page with a video. Sounds like a really good kid with a good head on his shoulders. Got length and hops!

One of the things about men's basketball is the inroads we've made in Louisiana. When Coach Marlin first got here most of his connections were in Texas. We signed guys like Mbamalu, Shepard, et.al.

But now we've seen Payton, Long, Washington, Stove, Wronkoski, and getting Bartley to come in here. We signed Julien and now the kid from Rayville.

We have a transfer from Saint Louis sitting out, plus Julien. I agree with T. If we can get a transfer each year to compliment these guys, we have a chance to be good.

Kevin Johnson is worth whatever he's getting paid. Probably more.

I posted this in the Lowery Commitment thread the other day but it may have been lost in the contract extension debate.

Transfer from St. Louis is named Jalen Johnson and he is from Baton Rouge. We recruited him hard out of HS and was happy we had a spot for him after he realized his skills had a better fit here. I have seen him play a couple of times and believe he may be best overall player on team. Think of a miore skilled Tyren Johnson. Tyren was on Robert Lee’s last team and was an All Conference player. Point was here is another example of our Reputation in Louisiana improving.

Mike if he is anything like Tyren was in his senior season we are in for a treat. I hope you are right. The only bad thing about Tyren was Lee not redshirting him. It would have been great to have him one more year.
