I do get it. Perhaps your recognition is a little off. For instance, I think a negative statement would be "I don't know why you guys even follow this program, its horrible. It always was and always will be and the coach sucks. We should all put our resources into something else". That is not my belief but that would be negative. Being critical might sound like: "I love Gary and hope he can turn it around BUT his tenure here thus far has been a little disappointing in regards to competing in conference for titles, sustained recruiting and fundraising".

See the difference between those two statements. Both are not necessarily wrong but the difference is that if we were "negative" we would have a poor outlook on the program and Gary not just now but for the future. Being critical is looking at what has happened and giving opinion based on what each person has seen. Its completely different. This is the same conversation with Marlin's contract. People take critical statements as those of negativity towards the program and Marlin and that's not the case.

Basin Bear, Im sure your a great dude, everyone on here seems to know you and respect you. I just think we should be positive and support. Maybe we need to take more of our time and figure out how to get more than 15K at the football game. Since you have had success coaching the football program at UL you should be able to help with this problem for sure. Lets be positive let the season play out and then make our negative comments.

Just was curious as to when you coached and how successful you were. The other guy brought it up that you know how to run a successful program. GEAUX CAJUNS, I know we can all agree we want all our sports programs to win.

I’ll be positive, the WBB team plays hard. That’s about all I can say that’s positive so far this season.

Which way is the Football program going or the men's basketball team?
His amount of giving means I'm more than willing to listen to him because he puts his money where his mouth is, rather than lecturing fans for their opinions. Given his background and his time with student athletes in the class room and in athletics, he brings some knowledge to the table that the average person does not have.

When it comes to my comments, you won't find many on this board that are negative towards Coach Gary Brodhead. He is one of the most decent men I've met in my life. Now that doesn't mean his program's performance or his job performance are above approach. He has set a standard for his program and at this stage it isn't where it should be considering his tenure at UL. That's my opinion and my critique of his program and it if you take any such discussion personally, perhaps you should stay off message boards and grow up.

College athletics is not a charity and it's not a high school where we are all cheer leaders as parents. When there are concerns, we should address them honestly and with no concern to whom may take it personally. As for football and mbb, both have had their success here at UL. I have discussed my concerns about Coach Marlin on this board and I will do so for Coach Napier as well when or if he reaches the years in tenure that Coach Brodhead has and is not performing up to expectations.
    Thanks!

I have generally enjoyed watching Brodhead's teams play. They play hard, they clearly like playing together, and they usually beat the teams that they should beat. Regrettably, that doesn't make them a good team, and losing to NAIA schools never helps.
I actually think the Doucet kid would have played on Coach Hall's team. She will get over 20 double doubles this season and is a tenacious rebounder. Guards have to protect the ball better and the whole team needs to communicate better on defense. It may take awhile but I expect the team to improve on these things as I know they will continue to work hard. No, they won't win the conference but they can set themselves up for long term success if they can keep the roster stable. All these "nice" things I just said means the Dillard loss is OK. It was a terrible blemish to the record and no one is anything but concerned with the result.
