I do get it. Perhaps your recognition is a little off. For instance, I think a negative statement would be "I don't know why you guys even follow this program, its horrible. It always was and always will be and the coach sucks. We should all put our resources into something else". That is not my belief but that would be negative. Being critical might sound like: "I love Gary and hope he can turn it around BUT his tenure here thus far has been a little disappointing in regards to competing in conference for titles, sustained recruiting and fundraising".
See the difference between those two statements. Both are not necessarily wrong but the difference is that if we were "negative" we would have a poor outlook on the program and Gary not just now but for the future. Being critical is looking at what has happened and giving opinion based on what each person has seen. Its completely different. This is the same conversation with Marlin's contract. People take critical statements as those of negativity towards the program and Marlin and that's not the case.
