Stroman is not the biggest talker out there. It just may not be a role he's comfortable in. Gant and Marquetti are fairly quiet guys on the court as well. Maybe you are right but I'd put my early money its more about Wesley's willingness to take on that role and his ability to do it.
This is a very good post ... this young man may be a natural leader and more vocal than the seniors; as the season progresses we want him to get better and as such could take over more and more leadership of the team.

Bob gets no pass from me because many of his peers like Coach Robicheaux have been doing it for years. I didn't mean to pop your good news, but the 80K is exactly the amount I heard was raised for the MBB program this year.
T, I understand your post but can you give examples. I know firsthand that Coach Robichaux has had his hands in fund raising since day one; but what does that amount to annually in revenue, say for last year?

Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

80K? Coach Lancon used to raise nearly that much for Track, even with the fossil not allowing him to contact anyone with serious money.

I haven't seen this years numbers but you can go back and look at the last two Athletic Reports and look at the donations line. The 80K is the most that Coach Marlin has raised in his tenure at UL, the Locker Rooms involved others including Gerald Hebert. This comes from the athletic department and their statement was that Marlin doesn't raise enough money for his program in comparison to his budget for the MBB and other programs at UL. Coach Rob has raised more money for the Baseball program outside others that have assisted him.

Leadership role has to be transitioned at some point for the future. Having someone running the point both on the court and off of it will be a great asset. Wesley also come from a winning pedigree. He played on one of the best High School teams in Texas and won the 6A state championship as a Junior.

I'm not going to compare basketball fund raising to cross sports who historically had a do or die existence.

How much did Robert Lee and Jessie Evans raise?

Why not, Turbine? There is less actual coaching work involved for a basketball coach [15 or so players] than for a track [50ish], baseball or softball coach. Plus the sport has a much higher profile in the pecking order. Should be a piece of cake for a basketball coach to raise money.

I'd rather compare basketball fundraisers to historical expectations to gauge if they are on the right track.

It is a different era so basketball needs to keep the fundraising ball bouncing.

On the surface it seems to me that marketing and trying to get money from supporters would be easier than coaching, ensuring kids go to class, win games, etc..... In my opinion his raises should be correlated to the amount of money he raises. If there is no money in the coffers then there is no money for raises.

It's irrelevant because none of them are on contract at UL today. And none of them were paid anything close to Coach Marlin. Here's the thing, I trust Dr. Maggard in resolving any concerns if there are any at this time. This discussion came about because I asked why we couldn't find the money to buy a few higher RPI games at the Cajun Dome. One of the problems is Coach Marlin isn't raising much money, among other things.

    I like your questioning.

My mind wasn't on RPI then, but 15 years ago on, my suggestion was take half the money UL receives from money games, let it accumulate and use that to buy attractive home games.
