No, I'm not betting on anything.
My comments reflected how I thought the NO Bowl reps might view such a matchup while considering whom to invite. Bowls are all about money, which means match-ups that draw the biggest crowds. I don't know that a Cajun-Tulane matchup would outdraw a Cajun-Neckster matchup, but I suspect it would. Tulane's been in the wilderness as it relates to bowl appearances.. Their fans want to see their team in a bowl. They wouldn't necessarily be happy with that matchup, but at least they'd believe it wasn't beneath them to play us in a bowl as the Necksters most certainly would.
Further to your comments about attendance though, I've had at least a dozen posters over these last few years question me about how if the Cajuns had an average attendance of only 25,000 at Cajun Field, where in the world would an additional 15,000 come from to watch a game in the New Orleans Bowl? The seemed to think that all 40,000 drove over from Lafayette.
My answer was always simple. When I attended USL, virtually my entire dorm floor housed students from the North Shore, Metarie, the West Bank, yats, Buras, etc. I was amazed at how popular USL was with students from that region. And it's logical that there are a lot of UL grads living in that part of the State today. Now, I suspect that most of them, simply because of logistics, do not attend regular Cajun home games even in the good times. But getting a chance to see the Cajuns play close to home in the Superdome and party in New Orleans with other Cajun fans, is pretty attractive.
How many might show up this year if we're back in New Orleans? I have no clue. I do bet though that the NO Bowl would select us before any other team just based on our proven history. A change of venue might be refreshing indeed, but I can't see any other location drawing Cajun fans like New Orleans does.
Not to mention, I suspect those other locations charge for parking as well.
Yep

Absolutely agree. Don't know when you were at U(S)L, but I was also amazed at how many people were from the NO and Houma areas when I was there from 1987-1992. Half my fraternity seemed to be from there. One of the highlights in school for me was the games against Tulane back when it was in the Dome every year. The Cajuns are obviously always going to draw much better there than anywhere else, and probably better than we do at home. Even with the lousy crowds we are getting at Cajun Field this year, I think we would draw 20k in the Dome no matter who we play, and even more for Tulane or LA-Neck.
----and those stats are the reason they want us back----thought it was cool thing to tell recruits that we play in the NO Bowl at the end of each year as a reward for the families of the program and all the Cajun fans---just sounds great to take over NO!!! Ragin' Cajun Week!!!
Wasn’t Mullens the USM QB in our last NOLA Bowl appearance? Regardless he’s doing a great job as a 49’er.
Already have the Friday booked as our annual Christmas visit to NOLA. I’m ready to add Saturday to that reservation!
