If one of the HS guys does enroll early they better be our starting QB next year. Don’t know how this was only a 10 point game with our qbs playing that badly yesterday

With the new NCAA transfer rule, I would not rule out a graduate transfer. This would reset the quarterback depth chart as it should be.

QB #1 - Graduate transfer or Gibson
QB #2 - Loser of QB1 vs Levi
QB #3 - Levi vs Fields
    QB #4 - Fields

I would really like to see Fields redshirt his first year. That's a lot of pressure for a high school QB.

Gibson would be playing now if he was better than either of the two guys seeing action. A transfer is possible but they need to find someone who can go through spring if they go that route. Keep in mind that coach said they had no plans to bring in a QB other than the HS guys at A QB Club meeting earlier in year. He may have changed his mind at this stage now that a few more games have been played.

I have been told they are looking for one and have already offered one JC QB. My money is on someone coming in after spring football. Coach Napier understands the needs of his program.

With 2 QB’s committed but unsigned and at that time a half a season left, there is no point for him to say anything else.

Do NOT want a grad transfer. Ragas and Mitchell will be Seniors in year 3 with Napier. We gotta be firing on all cylinders then to make as much hay as possible for program progression. I would much rather our starting QB that year to learn on the job in year 2.

Also, grad transfers can cause other issues as well. Don't think that bringing in Jennings didn't sour things with JD. In fact, a hallmark of the Hud years was mishandling of the QB position. We will have a full stable of QBs next season with the guys already coming on board. They may be young and inexperienced, but this is what happens when you have to rebuild a position.

You have to rebuild at most positions, addressing the program's needs. If you can get a grad transfer with 2 years of eligibility left and he fits your system, you take him. You can build from beneath at QB, just like they have to do in the secondary and DL.

I don't believe Napier has a 3 year rebuild on his hands and I've been saying this even after the Coastal Carolina game. We've played the two top programs in the conference this year and didn't get blown away like the past few seasons. And we still might make it to the SBC Championship game.

We are literally 1 QB and a hand full of good defensive players away from having a shot at winning this league period.

Agree for the most part. I was saying we shouldn't do another 1 and done like Jennings.

Not surprised he is looking for an experienced QB after seeing a few more games. If the best guy does not graduate from either a JC or as a grad transfer, that is who he takes. I am sure he hopes someone talented can enroll in January.

We rushed for 228 yards against Arkansas St. Loading the box doesn't mean you can't run against someone. When you load the box, there isn't any 2nd level support. If you break through the line, it is a huge gain.

The issue comes down to that Troy's DB's were physical with our WR's and we couldn't handle it. Loaded the box (and were disciplined about it) and locked us down in 1-1 coverage = shutting down ANY offense ... see Bama vs LSU.

Well, it does but using the ASU game as a comparison is not real valid when we threw for over 300 on them as well. Our first score was a swing pass that went the distance. They had to settle back off of us at that point. We were able to be very balanced against ASU. Troy was able to, with their DB play, jam us and really fill the box. I think we both agree that the difference was Troy's strength in pass defense that allowed them to do so all game.

I agree, my point is that EVERY game plan against us will be the same, regardless of opponent ... take away the run and force them to beat you with the pass.

It comes down to execution and having the talent to execute. Troy and App State have both on defense, Arkansas State and the rest of our schedule does not. Now, the ULM game will be a good test I believe. It is a road game, in-state rival, and multiple coaching ties. If everything goes to plan, it should be a game for the West Championship & a guaranteed 7 win season, with an upside of 9 wins.
