On February 24, 2010, at approximately 8:10 pm, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to a parking lot at 301 Doucet Road regarding a car burglary in progress. The suspect was observed entering the victim's vehicle by way of the passenger side door. The suspect jumped into a silver Pontiac and fled the parking lot south on Doucet Road. Officers chased the suspect to the dead end of Ducharme, where the suspect fled on foot. A Lafayette Police Department K-9 was deployed in the area to track the suspect.
The K-9 lead officers to the rear of a home in the 300 block of Ducharme and located the suspect hiding beneath a large bush. The suspect, A J Williams (34) of Elton, was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for his injuries. He was released from the hospital and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for Simple Burglary of an Auto, Flight from an Officer, and Resisting an Officer. Williams was also found to have an outstanding warrant from Jefferson Parish for Simple Burglary of an Auto.
