Thread: Grow Interest: Return of the Turkey Day Game

  1. Default Grow Interest: Return of the Turkey Day Game

I would have Homecoming at 12 noon on Thursday November 22 like Louisiana used to do 100 years ago.

A lot of alumni already come home to visit Thanksgiving Day, and many would love an itinerary driven day.

Also, it gives UL a couple extra days to prepare for the SBC Championship game.

You want homecoming on Thanksgiving Day? If you thought having 18,000 in attendance this past Saturday was bad, put the dang thing on Thanksgiving Day and watch us go back to Baldwin numbers.

    Last regular season game.

    Ticket redemption.

Lots of family in town going stir crazy. Peer pressure attendance through the roof.

    Everybody is off.

Gives the team 2 extra days to prepare for the SBC Championship game.

It becomes a destination event, not just another game.

    Historical tradition at Louisiana.

Would be the worst attended game of the year, every year.

    Your fears are unfounded.
Just to compare another school to itself, in 2016 the LSU TAMU Thanksgiving Day game game had 102,000+ in attendance. Their 3rd highest of the year, and only 4,000 off the season high.

The potential for Louisiana is endless.

We couldn’t get 20,000 on a Saturday with temps in the 80s and not a cloud in the sky. You aren’t sniffing 10,000 on thanksgiving day.

And now you want to compare our hypothetical attendance to two elite P5 programs.

Why don’t you just compare us to the cowboys? We don’t have the fans, they do. Your example means absolutey nothing to our situation. We can’t get our season ticket holders to show up, LSU season ticket holders can give theirs away then those people give them away and then those people sell them to people who go. Like comparing apples to pork roast.

Good chance both apples and pork roast will be in play on Thanksgiving day.

If we played on thanksgiving I’d hope the university would give all 1500 people in attendance a pork roast and an apple for their troubles. I know our entire group would not be there, all the hunters won’t be there. People who travel or take family vacations won’t be there.

You are falsely assuming attendance would drop based solely on the day.

If that were true it would apply to any program, anywhere, any status.

Fact is their Thanksgiving day attendance experienced a boost and was the 2nd best attendance ever between the two teams.

Same would hold true for UL.

In this case each team is only compared to themselves.

No matter how poorly you think of UL's fanbase, all external data shows there would be an increase in fan interest.

The people who leave at Thanksgiving aren't from here. Less likely they ever attend.

There are more coming home into Acadiana than leaving. Bigger chance of their enjoying a game.

Hunters who hunt on Thursday are hunting on Saturday. That's a wash.

Im from here, i went to UL and i leave for thanksgiving.

No there aren’t more coming in than leaving, according to you they are all in Baton Rouge for thanksgiving.

Exactly and home games on Saturday after thanksgiving are horribly attended.

My group hardly ever misses and certainly never the entire group..usually 1 or 2 here of there..thanksgiving Thursday the tents wouldn’t even get setup.

It would be the worst attended game year in and year out. We don’t have the fans.
