Feedback from the San Jac pitching coach.

"They have a few good arms. Very tough to strike out the hitters. They have a great 2 strike approach and played good defense"

That doesn't sound like our offense from the last few seasons.

How was this played? I’m assuming score was kept. Anyone have any insight? Who looked good, not good, etc?

No score kept. San Jac got on the board first with a HR over left field wall. We scored in the forth off a hit. Had to leave in the fifth at 1-1

Here is what their coach tweeted out.

I am sure the @RaginCajunsBSB hitters most definitely hated doing all those drills & sacrificing all their self to be forced 2 choke up & spread out and “Not move their feet” w/2K’s... Today, vs our arms, I guarantee they noticed their sacrifice will win lots of games. Bought In.

Their arms were really good. I think we only struck out a couple of times.

And, in the eight innings I watched, they scored one run, on a homer off one of our freshmen.

Bourgeois did not play. Neither did Lott.

Lahare, Breaux and Veillon started in the OF. Spears was at first with Lott out. Monica was the DH. McKinnon caught. Kasuls, Cantrelle, Windham in the IF.

But more players were used later in the game. Looks like we might have a logjam in the OF. Lockridge looked much more comfortable at the plate.

Will be most interested to see how much progress McKinnon and Windham make with Wells as their hitting coach.

    And this:

Thank you @RaginCajunsBSB for hosting us for today’s scrimmage. Love playing these games. The ability to play against and learn from older, more mature players will pay dividends for us this spring. The Cajuns 2 K approach is unbelievable. Good luck to y’all this spring!

    And one more

.Jake Wells has those kids on the right track. Good luck to y’all.

Thought Leaumont looked really good. Perrin seems to have added some velo. After giving up the bomb, Chance Stone looked good. Natural run on his pitches and throws harder than expected.

Hayden, Monica, Windy, Hannie all hit the ball hard.

    Defense is still very good.

But I was very impressed with San Jac’s team, particularly their pitching staff. They have guys that could pitch here.

One correction....Hannie started in left with Lahare in CF and Vellion in right. They played the first six innings.

    You know, you're right.

But they must have batted more than nine at a time, because Breaux hit in the second or third inning.

yes, that could be very true.... This team showed me a more confident approach at the plate. I like what Coach Wells is doing!

San Jac is high quality. They are often ranked in the Houston paper higher than a lot of local D1 programs. Some years it is harder for a kid to make the San Jac team than some D1's in Texas. It's an awesome opportunity to have those players on campus, hopefully it will lead to more recruiting connections there.
