Yeah, it looks like we've got to decide whether or not we'll allow Cajun football games to become a ghetto experience or not.

A lot of the college kids love the "ghetto experience". Its cultural appropriation. This is why UL has gotten the same results in previous years, the administration may be trying their best, but you cant please everyone. Our game atmosphere is boring, that's why the same 15K fir hards keep showing up and complaining. Embrace something different. All boats will rise with the tide.

I have to give credit to the Festival, they had a UL pep rally with the team, pep band and the coaches Friday evening. Coach Napier gave a little speech and overall it was good exposure and indication on the direction that the program is going.
But I can see how the Festival impacted attendance, after all there are very few free festivals with that many bands, food offerings and art offerings around.
If anyone else had to find a room in town you would realize how many people were really in the area just for the festival last weekend.

More of these college kids should take advantage of their "appropriation" and actually come to the games

I can't believe that some (or many) of you think that there should be some huge increase in attendance at this point. The product (UL football) to the average common fan, is the same as it has been. Until there is a consistent upward trajectory in the program, and until this team can start winning meaningful games, against good programs, then why expect anything more. The common fan is not interested in losing football. Just the way it is. It was a good win today, but it did not, repeat, did not raise the status of this program, so don't expect it. Napier has it going in the right direction, it's just going to take time to build up some excitement around a struggling program, and that is what it is at this point.

Also, it's not coincidence that we get more for games like Southern/ Grambling, etc. (inferior talent - I know they're closer and have a loyal following) than we do for conference games. How excited can a fan base get to play Appetizer State, Idaho (in years past), New Mexico State, inter-coastal Carolina, etc. This conference SUUUUUUUUUCKS... and is not appealing to anyone outside of it. No other way to put it. Keep winning, move up to a better conference and I believe the crowds will improve. If you build it... err... keep building it... they will keep coming.

I agree that students need to get more involved and attend games. However, I think getting more of the general population in the area to attend is just as big of a problem. We can’t put all the blame on the students. We need everyone to step up. But to do that the Cajuns need to get to the point that winning is the norm and losing is the exception!

I agree the teams in the conference do not have regional appeal. However the results on the field indicate it is on top of CUSA and the MAC this season.
