Will be 15,000 in the stands but the fleur de leis math dept. will count by 2's...as per usual...all in all...who really cares!!! the chili peppers are not a real football program in the NCAA scheme of things!!!
My prediction . . .
I'll take your word on that, I really dont care too much for those boys out east. But that's not the point. It's about supply and demand. 105k find a way. In the same state. Only an hour away. But we don't have 50k fans who have money, or 40k, or 30k. Do you see my point?
The entire fanbase sucks. We add 3000 students to our attendance and our numbers still suck. We have a much larger issue than just the students and people need to realize that. The local community is not getting involved for whatever reason. Until that is fixed our attendence will always be bad.
I’m sure everyone can think of games were the student section was packed. If not packed, it was certainly fuller than it has been in recent memory. When Hud was winning, the students showed up. They’ll come back for a winner.
Plus, across the college football landscape, attendance is a topic of conversation. I’m sure the peer schools in our conference and similar sized institutions across the G5 collectively have the same conversations about attendance as we do on this board, oh, every 9 days or so.
Hudspeth was motivating and marketing to the students and fan base in the beginning. UL had hope of being big time due to winning. Students and fans need constant visual reminder. Does the athletic department need to have more of a presence on campus?
Because we don’t win.. And I don’t mean Sun Belt win.. We need to WIN.
People want to be a part of something special. Beating NMSU isn’t special. Even if you do it over and over again.
Bring Boise to town and win. Go beat a Kentucky or Ole Miss on the road, and then come home and dominate the conference. Do something special on national TV when the whole country is watching. That’s our problem.
There are folks in the Athletic complex who are paid money to figure this out. Obviously, they aren't doing a very good job. UL has always had game marketing/involvement issues. While winning will cure some of these ills (see Cincinnati vs Tulane, the Bearcat student sections were full for an afternoon game...) its going to take some creative direct marketing to sway student participation. It ain't rocket surgery, get creative and get to work on social media. Avoid the "cutesy" promotions, they never work and only look cheap and dumb. NO ONE is going to show up to for a free fry or drink promotion. And to some extent, this situation DOES involve the game day atmosphere and in stadium experience, which has been enough of a sore point that it makes its way on to the after game surveys, but changes never occur. And since it is homecoming, Napier should say something about not just student attendance, but address the "casual" fan out there...
