The Pelicans organization didn’t educate me. The Pelicans organization isn’t a stalwart in the community, doesn’t directly impact (proportionally) the local economy, and most people don’t associate cultural pride with the Pelicans. I agree with your athlete comments, and I’ve said similar. This particular ___k up should be seen through the lense of a Homecoming Game. It’s a little more than football.
Agreed, but UL never made those students feel that way. Loyalty is not going to fill a stadium.
Uno and Tulane have the same problem here in Nola. I don’t even know if Tulane played this week. There is zero coverage. The only time Tulane got mentioned in the past few weeks is when the LSU transfer QB was inserted into the starting lineup. What helps the area economy more, UNO, Tulane or LSU? UNO/Tulane hands down, but that football team has a hold on people.
You are going about this the wrong way. It is not about loyalty. College Football is a business. When UL becomes a G5 power, local people will come because they will rather see UL locally than drive 50 miles to watch LSU pummel McNeese. Until that time attendance will be disappointing.
In almost every instance, I agree. I would point out that the NOLA market has plenty of competition. Lafayette has virtually none, athletically.
I maintain, homecoming is a loyalty issue. Continued support, showing up every home game, following the team, RCAF membership, etc is not, but HC should garner a certain bit of obligation.
The product on the field has NEVER been the issue for me. I would go to every game played, including soccer, volleyball and all other sports, if I could. But when I became unemployed 6 years ago, I had a decision to make. I chose to continue my relationship with softball. I hope to expand my support of my university once I've had my hernia surgery. We'll see.
