We all sometimes have to face reality in life. The casual college football fans in Acadiana will always be LSU fans first. I came to that realization 25 years ago and nothing has changed. If you check the attendance numbers at every other G5 program in the country, you'll see that every G5 program is dealing with declining attendance. UL (just like Tulane and La Tech) will NEVER be able to compete with LSU for the casual fan in Louisiana. That's just the way it is. Once you accept this fact, you can enjoy Cajun football for what it is, and that's exactly what I do.
I hope any talk of expanding Cajun Field is put on hold indefinitely. We've got all the capacity we'll ever need already. Spend the money instead on making our stadium as nice and comfortable as we possibly can. That's the trend for programs that have a realistic vision of the future of G5 football.
Let me help a brother out. * "see red"
As I approach the "get off of my lawn stage of life", I went that way a few years back regarding UL and politics. Can't tell you the last time I went to Academy.
All programs have casual fans...lose or have a down trend, all you’ll be left with is the smell of Walmart silkscreen.
• Have a commons area for average fans to hang out before and after the game, kinda like the baseball field but better, set up concessions for beer, with a stage with live music, and food. A Championship Square type place at Cajun Field so the average fan can hang out before and after the game
Have you ever been by the oak tree? That’s exactly what it is. Food drinks and music all in a 100 ft radius for like 4 hours before the game.
Going for a 6th straight win vs trying to get to .500
North Texas still had a mystique about them by simply having gone to the first 4 New Orleans Bowls. Also they had just announced they were leaving the SunBelt for CUSA and this would be their last SBC appearance at Louisiana.
Plus there had been no fan purging yet, everyone was still invited. ??
It's just excuses for people that don't REALLY want to attend. UL football is extremely affordable in comparison. I paid $50 a ticket for next week's Sunbelt game at App St. People were giving away tickets all over the place yesterday if you think tickets are too expensive to buy.
Someone complained about walking from across Congress. 😂 Are you frickin kidding me? Try getting that close to any other stadiums. Fact is this is a very bad, SOFT fanbase. That's all there is to it. If anyone thinks yesterday's attendance was embarrassing, wait until we're sent to Montgomery or Arizona for a minor bowl game.
If lsubr wasn't playing #2 Georgia at same time on TV, we would have had at least 20k, which is what we have averaged for 50 years. Still not where we want to be, but neither is the program itself. We're not just rebuilding a football program, we're also rebuilding a fan base.
To that point, we must rethink how we are marketing our product. The incessant blaring of the music is driving people insane.
