UL jumped to a 28-0 halftime lead, then held on in the second half to beat Texas State 42-27 behind a 6-yard Elijah Mitchell touchdown run in the third quarter, Andre Nunez’s 6-yard TD pass to Ryheem Malone in the fourth and a late-game defensive stand in which the Bobcats turned the ball over on downs at the 4-yard line with just under two minutes to go.

Texas State quarterback Tyler Vitt rallied the Bobcats with three second-half TD passes and caught one himself on a trick play, but ultimately that was not enough.

Mitchell ran 20 times for 194 yards and three touchdowns, while Trey Ragas ran 21 times for 104 yards and a TD of his own.
