Just exactly what bigger and more prestigious conference is that going to be? The "bigger and more prestigious conference" bus left the station about five years ago when the P5 was formed. We may still see some geographical realignment among the G5 conferences, but as far as the creation of a new G5 conference that'll be more prestigious, that's nothing more than a pipe dream. If anything, the G5 conferences will all become much more equal, both in performance as well as in prestige.

Right now, the top two or three teams in the AAC, as well as Boise in the MWC are clearly the cream of the crop in the G5, but the rest of the teams in those conferences are no better than Sun Belt, MAC, or CUSA teams. Though we all dream of making it into a big time conference, it just isn't going to happen. We simply weren't ready when we needed to be and were therefore left off the invitation list. The door to the big time has now closed.

How much of an issue was our new DC leaving before the season?

We don’t have a whole lot of talent on defense. The young guys are very athletic, but need to learn and become more seasoned. Our secondary is pretty poor. A different DC wouldn’t make a whole lot of difference.

Agreed on the talent but 1st choice of DC versus 2nd choice must have made some small difference. There's no way to know of course, just a thought.

0% unless he’s God. The players, Jim’s & Joes aren’t there in great numbers. Like a total first string.

    I can't argue with that.

This is understandable. Three of the 4 starters in the secondary are previous walk ons. I agree with the talent perspective which is why I feel like we need to be doing something like challenging the offense with blitzes and more pressure. Is it a gamble considering our inability to cover? yes. I think it should be a calculated gamble at certain times because we aren't turning teams over and we aren't getting off the field. At some point, we have to do more than play base defense.

To be a successful blitzing team you need speed on the edges and LB. I don’t think we have that. I’m guessing the blitzes we try against our O line in practice do not yield the desired results.

They use it to reel in coaches too.
