Thread: Glad Hud is in UL's rearview miror.

We have DJ Loomey on our staff who was on the State staff last year. Same advantage they had with Hud. What gets overlooked is when you have SEC or ACC talent as a coach...it’s easy to look good. But you give that same coach lower mid major talent, he doesn’t look the same. And you have to do double or triple the work to get the same result. I’ve heard Napier say more than once “we have to do a better job as coaches putting them in a position to be successful.” It’s gonna be a big adjustment this year trying to figure that recipe for success out with this group. I expect them to get it right...but it’s gonna take several games to do so. Playing 2 really good sec teams this early and this close together will make it pretty tough on the entire staff to really figure things out

    Not exactly the same advantage.

D.J. Looney, spent 2017 learning to do his job at Mississippi State. He doesn't, couldn't know every MSU players tendencies intricately. In 2016 he was a grad assistant at a different school.

Hud knows many/most of the UL players from the proverbial recruiting ground up. "This guy bites on a fake to the left. etc. type of thing. ...

Similar but different, huge advantage Hud/MSU.

I liked what Coach Napier said this morning in his interview with Stevie P. He admitted the performance was embarrassing. He also said we need to focus on solutions to the problems instead of focusing on the problems.

I like that, because the problem of having an opposing coach who know your players tendencies as good or better than you, won't happen again. Perhaps never again.

Don't we play MSU next year?

Look, if we execute at a rate of 85% we still lose that game by 3 scores. We just aren’t there yet.

Yes. A year from now Hud's advantage weakens dramatically.

If they didn't have HUD they still would have throttled us.

    Hud didn't matter one iota.

Without Fitzgerald, there is no way they beat us that bad, but they are a top-10, maybe top-5 school this season depending on how they fare in the SEC West. It's the best Miss St. team I have ever seen, and maybe of all time. Ditto for Bama.

But, you know what, I'm glad they are both on the schedule this year. It gives Coach Napier the opportunity to show his players what it looks like at the top, what it takes to compete on a championship level.

Tremendous amount of teachable moments and learning opportunities came out of Saturday night as they will at Bama.

In a "Year Zero" situation, I love that.

And you say I suck at parties. Btw, you are correct. Welcome to the dark side.

That's why I led my post with 26 seniors and closed with Hud.

I wanted to reply before someone goes to the extreme and belittles Iota.
