I completely agree that we shouldn't overreact either way. I couldn't believe some of you fools were predicting a win just like I am disappointed we couldn't go in there and compete better than we did but I felt that our defense is in NO position to help us in a game like this.
However, I must say I hate when people say that this coach doesn't have HIS players. He has players and coaches he put in a position to see improvements. He has some returning talent on offense and you still have to coach those players. I am disappointed in our defense and our overall defensive approach. We are way too base to make any plays. We do not have the overall pass rushers to cover for our lack of a pass defense and our linebackers are average at best. However, Napier needs to get something going defensively and we need to be able to finish off drives and not stall when we start to approach the redzone. Very disappointing. You don't give him a pass because he doesn't have his players. You expect him to coach the players he has and improve from last year.
Geez, again. I'm reading my post to see where I'm suggesting we need his magic wand. Yep, don't see anything in there that I would claim is as distorted as your comprehension. I stated that we don't have playmakers but we need to get a bit more aggressive to help them make plays. Base defense is not going to really stop many people this year for us. I feel we need to get more aggressive. I stated the same above but will do so again for you. I just want to see some improvement. I'm not expecting a miracle this year. I predicted 5 wins. My expectations are somewhat conservative. Not sure how that is calling him out though.
I'm just floored by some of these comments. I'm not sure what some of your expectations were for this game. Hud didn't leave us with a stocked cupboard. That is increasingly obvious when you play a talented P5 opponent.
Post of the season.
Throw in the loss of those who had skills but decided for other paths, so far my expectations have been met. A coach that has brought structure and accountability to our program. We handled Grambling, and Moo State handled us. Nothing unexpected. We battled to the end in a blowout loss, that didn't happen last year. I'm content.
So Igo to BBear and T’s table and give them my first half update.....taking KOs out of endzone....not picking up first downs on fourth down (get the first down on 2nd or 3rd)......stay wide and keep containment....4th and 1 passes....Ragas is a bull....man coverage without help last play of the half....so many little things led to big things like easy 1st downs and poor starting field position......the guys added underthrown passes......QB read and MSU scheme for F-Gerald.....OK, I like this team and the staff and lets go to Bama 2-1!
Hud was recruiting what, middle-of-the-pack to low end Sunbelt players? I want to see what Napier does week-in-week-out with this team against the rest of the Belt before making any grand statements about his coaching ability or the staff he put together.
Again though, look at that score last night and the total domination of Miss State but compare our effort on the field, to the very end of the game, to that of last year's team against App State. That team had clearly given up on the coaching staff last year.
