Thread: Better athletes or better coaching?

Ragin' Cajuns Better athletes or better coaching?

Disparity in athletes? . I could never understand why people think that teams from stronger conferences (Div 1) are so much better then lower conferences just because they get higher 'star' athletes. Is the 'star' rating thing really such a big deal?..Because, all of these players (one star to five star) seem to be on the same "physical" level. I'm inclined to say it's more of a coaching thing which gives me hope that all teams can compete on the same level given their talent based on coaching experience. JMHO. And.... If it is a physical thing then I would suggest a system like the NFL which drafts on best player available. College draft system!

The star system is not an exact science, but generally speaking they get it pretty close. There is a huge talent disparity between us and the teams in P5 conferences. I don’t want to devalue the impact of quality coaching, but you can’t coach speed and athleticism into a player.

It’s all about 2 and 3 deep. Most D1 teams have players. Hand full of Blue bloods have the best arhletes available, but there rest are pretty close in talent for starters. Depth is what sets P5 apart.

This is not up for debate. The two SEC team we play have better athletes across the board.

Because? All the more argument for a College draft system.

....All the teams run basically the same set and the same plays on offense, the same allignment and stunts on defense, and the same st and conditioning programs.....this is not just put on paper and on to the field, it is based upon years and years of study and staff meetings......bigger, stronger faster, and more athletic players are the difference in all games outcomes except in those where for whatever reasons top performances aren’t given by the better players!

Except for the minor fact that these kids are choosing where they wish to attend college. A few will play at the next level, most won't.

It's called socialism. Something more and more liberal college students embrace.

This is the correct answer. You have to have both, great coaching and great players is hard to beat.
