And if Napier can elevate this program like Hud did, then we will be in better shape. I'm just saying that I'd rather give him time before I start calling him a legend and wanting to name stadiums after him and see how he builds a program.
So, Nape will not be given the good vibes that Hud enjoyed?

Why can't we get excited? Do you not want to sell out Cajun Field? Are we supposed to wait until he wins 10 games and beats SEC schools to spread the good word? Should we call all of our commits and tell them to hold off on that commit for now because we're not sure if he is any better than Hud yet?

You and Mike are the wet blanket kings.

Of course we should get excited. Everything points to positive things happening going forward. Just because we want to see a few more results before we start worrying about where he will coach next does not mean we are not optimistic. I have said I am encouraged by what I have seen so far multiple times. I just don't deal in hyperbole as much as some.

I will be saying Novenas that he chooses to become a legend.
If he wins 9 games this year, I don’t think we have him next season.

"Opinion", "enthusiasm", and "excitement" are totally allowed even expected when stating a positive.

In the light of one game proving he is wrong has a higher burden than proving he is right.

In two weeks or two years you might have a stronger argument, but it still won't mean your -put on the brakes- attitude was correct on Sept. 5th

    ps try to be positive.
We are all now dumber for having read this post.

Lol. Overreaction is the theme of the day around here. Let me clarify ONE last time. I have never said that I'm not excited about coach Napier. I put trust in Maggard et al for making the right hire based on circumstance and fit for the program. I'm going to follow the lead of some of the people like Cajun T and evaluate the job he and his staff have done and what type of coach I think he can be after we've actually seen some gameplay.

Its not about being a wet blanket and pessimistic. My views for him and his staff are far from that, however, I'm not going to hang on every single word he speaks and every single tiny aspect tweeted or posted about our program and instantly declare him to be a "legend". I'd like to think that I'm actually doing him and staff a service by employing a somewhat objective approach to how I judge the job he's done. You guys are setting that bar pretty high with some of the declarations I've seen in this thread. It will be pretty hard to live up to some of the things I've seen describing him with one game under his belt.

    You definitely "wet blanketed" him.

You yourself stated he was just stating an opinion

I posted a neutral "nothing proves you wrong", but you had to go and "wet blanket" him.

ps sorry for putting you through the ringer.

Never said he is a legend. I said he could become a legend if he were to stay when he gets offered a big time job.

I did say he is an elite coach. I will stand by that statement all day.

Some on here could ____ up a wet dream. Let the dreaming continue. Let the man and his staff coach. Let the team continue to progress. No need to wait for anything, just enjoy the dream until it turns.

OK, so maybe I jumped the gun a bit. You said he will be one in the comment below:

"In a couple of years, he will be given the choice to follow a legend somewhere else or become a legend here."

I take that to mean you are saying with certainty that he will be one here if he hasn't left. That's still expecting a lot from a guy with one head coaching game under his belt.

In regards to his elite status, that is hope that we all share but its based on no measurable form of data.

I don't partake in wet dreams Vic. Again, perspective and comprehension are paramount in this conversation. As a matter of fact, you are partially making my point for me by stating we need to let him and his staff coach. Exactly. Let them coach. Let's allow them the time to build a program and actually win some games before we anoint him a future legend and mention that we will be naming the stadium after him as has been mentioned in this thread.

I don't get some of you guys. Its not being negative. I used the Hud situation to make my point. We felt the same way about him after his first season or two or three. It's just funny how perspective changes in a short amount of time. Hud was energetic, motivating and a hell of a recruiter during that time. That was the perspective of this board at that time and I certainly don't remember seeing any posts suggesting otherwise. Hell, I was one who felt that exact way. At least he was doing things that were never accomplished at this university like going to an actual bowl game since 1970. We're jumping the gun even more on Napier since he coached his first and only game as a head coach last weekend. Like you said, lets give him time to coach before we put such expectations on him.
