This is not a surprise to me but I did not realize how serious the issue was until I read the article. Situation will likely get worse as kids who played soccer and lacrosse growing up and paying little attention to traditional sports. Even more so is the huge number of millennials who pay no attention to any sports

We either need to adapt or die! The traditional football fan is a dying breed. Most people go for the game, but between TV, and other things we have to make it fun for the average fan.

Look at it like Soccer. Soccer is not that popular in the U.S. So they focus on making the fans comfortable and amenities to get fans to the game. We need to do the same thing at Cajun Field and think outside the box to grow the attendance and brand !!

Playing Grambling is not a bad way to kick off the season, and get fans to the game!

Actually, besides the NFL, soccer is probably the only other sport that doesn’t do the crazy off field gimmicks. The action in Soccer doesn’t really stop like other sports so the focus tends to stay on the game itself.

MLS does a great job of developing it’s supporters group culture. They give heavy discounts to supporters groups and special seating. These are the people that stand behind the goals and sing, make elaborate signs and flags, etc. It makes a gigantic difference in the atmosphere.

I’m happy with all the things UL is trying to implement to get students and fans in the door, but I feel like they could also take a page out of MLS’s playbook and work on creating these supporters groups. Instead of getting people excited about going to a bar inside the stadium, maybe they could get them excited about being a bigger part of the game.

I don't see these as being mutually exclusive.

Remember when we used to report scanned tickets only? That wasn't that many years ago.

Lose to Grambling and you won't get 10,000 the next home game...and that's counting season tickets sold not butts in the seats!!!

Hahaha!! What did some one from the administration look and guess attendance. We actually count butts in the seats. Plus we were coming off a 5-7 season.
