You obviously don’t watch much football. Every team no matter there colors black & gold purple and gold, maroon and gold red and blue, blue and orange or red and black wears white when they are visitors. Some even though they are purple and gold chooses white at home. White is the one and only universal color for that every football team wears.

Dude if you don't understand the difference then there is really no use in discussing. White is not an alternate color. It is the color every road team must wear unless some kind deal was made before hand. If black was the color every road team wore then we obviously wouldn't be having this discussion. If you cannot see the difference I really feel sorry for your ability to think logically.

So its ok for teams to wear non official colors got it

We do not even wear the correct shade of red the official color in the braiding guide it list the CMYK model as C=0, M=100, Y=100, K=15 but vermilion is C=0 M=84 Y=71 K=0.

Vermilion is one of the most poorly defined colors, ranging from Tomato Red to almost (but rarely) Burgundy.

The Royal Red of the middle ages is hard core.

All colors, of course, are actually a range of hues, so vermilion comprises a range from red to near-orange. But the reason that schools choose team colors is to distinguish themselves from their opponents. Since variations of red & white are, by far, the most common colors in college athletics, we need to distinguish ourselves. Vermilion is unique to UL; it is important that we define our unique color... well, uniquely.

By placing UL's vermilion exactly between red and orange, so that it is not clearly either color, we can capitalize upon and promote our unique color as both a trademark and a school identifier.

Bright orange-red is also an appropriate color to reflect our culture. There are a large number of distinctive icons in Cajun culture that are bright orange-red: boiled crabs, tabasco peppers, crawfish bisque, ripe tomatoes, old barns, rusty tin roofs, new fiddles, piléed brick and azaleas.

Even the wild swamp iris Iris nelsonii, named for the late UL faculty member Ira Nelson, is a dusky shade of vermilion.

UL's colors are vermilion and white. Every school in the country uses white, so that's a problem. Fortunately, vermilion is unique to UL.

It seems that there are only three choices for vermilion.

    We can use it.

    We can change it.

    Or we can lie.

The 1901 football game article stated "The town is ablaze with Vermilion" the school color.

Not many schools have had the same color their entire history. Especially amongst schools that straddle 3 centuries.

Black shirts do have lots of positives, you look skinnier, hides sweat well and hides various food malfunctions like bbq sauce, boudin drippings, bacon grease, gumbo etc..various things that somehow miss your mouth and land on your shirt
