Apparently ULM wants to go back to Northeastern.
Is this accurate. Do ULM officials really want to go back to being called Northeast Louisiana University? Would not be surprised if it is not old time fans calling for that. Just like some of our older guys occasionally using USL.

I've heard, or read, something in the not too distant past that they wanted to return to that name. Wish I could recall where. I agree that this could be our opening to become The University of Louisiana. Might be a court case against it, but then again, maybe not. So many states have both a University of XXXX and XXXX State. But yeah, I know, this is Louisiana.

One thing though that I think is worth saying is that it was a wise decision that we've made the push we have and have had the success we've had with our branding as Louisiana. And when looking around the state of Louisiana, what other school would qualify as the University of Louisiana?

Regardless of the reason, this could be the catalyst for a real conversation in this god forsaken legislature. UL has much more presence at the Capitol now, we’re in the age of widely distributed information and no one with a brain is accepting this LSUA&M@BR bias.

    You never know.

Indeed MAT, accurate observation. And coupled with the recent news we've passed the $100 Million mark in research dollars spent (more than everyone else in the UL system combined), capital spending on campus, student body, etc, it gets harder and harder for those who'd argue against the concept. Time will tell, but I do have to tip my hat once again to Dr. Savoie's leadership.

There is a segment of our community that want UL to be private and have pushed for that reality for years. After the next fiscal year, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a more vocal campaign to continue that push. We will be sub 20% of state subsidies at that point, and for Louisiana, especially under this last decade of political incompetence in particular, that is a jaw dropping accomplishment.

Originally there had to be 2 schools agree to change the name in order to do so. If ULM was to change their name back to NE LA, would we be forced to change also? I would not put it past our crooked politicians in BR.

MAT, other than the obvious, being free of the whims of that bunch of incompetents in the Red Shaft, what are the pros and cons of going private?

That’s not what the law says. The “law” dictates that 2 universities have to agree to change names at the same time, and have a city designation attached to their name.

If ULM changes, it will have no affect on Louisiana.

So many answers to both. Abraham could answer better than me, but going private has many advantages, IF you can sustain your financial health. (IMO, UL has diversified enough to do that, but I’m not educated enough on the subject to speak on it).

We will need a constant flow of cash, on top of endowment. We’ll have to have scholarships fully funded as well, for all athletic programs. But man... we’d have some freedom.

I see an opening here if the law dictates that 2 universities have to agree to change names at the same time. They change to Northeast Louisiana and we change to Univeristy of Louisiana. Problem solved.

As the saying goes, luck is when preparation and opportunity cross paths. T-Joe seems like a lucky guy.
