Every time LSU and the legislature would try to shut down programs, he would move money around and save the program. I can personally say he was responsible for keeping the Masters Geology program. Instead of us getting cut, Nicholls and Tech got whacked.
On the athletic front he went D1 and broke from all of our traditional rivals. He knew sports was a difference maker for us over the other regional schools. Did he make mistakes? Yes, quite a few of them. He was penny wise and pound foolish. But make no mistake, without the Fossil we would not all be here talking about many of the great things that are happening at our University.
FYI U S news is a magazine. Academicians who have credibility do not recognize their analyses and positions. U L is on the cusp of a Carnegie 1 rating. Required elements would be research dollars, phds, and support staff. U L recently reported 124 million to N S F for last yr report. 100 million is the min requirement. PhDs last yr were at 66. Uni of Oregon has same # phds. U L is getting number of associated support staff in line to become tier one. We should be very close in next round of year 2021. 89% chance for Approval. Go Cajuns!!

Do you have a list, or a link to, the qualifications for each classification? I have searched for it, but did not have much luck.
