Gary's is a hole in the wall place on Lamar at the railroad tracks in Freetown. You have to want to go there to get there. However, the parking lot is full every day about noon. It's about 3 or four blocks from Acadian Superette. Fire Trucks, cops and other varied types of people there.
If you want an eclectic mix of people go to Dwyers (not a bad Hamburger either) You can see Homeless people to Federal Judges eating there. I was there one time and they had people lined up to out of the door. Only three servers were there and they were slammed. A customer gets up and starts cleaning off tables. An unusual site indeed. You also see customers picking up their plates and bringing them to the bus trays. The place is different in a great way.
They do have a sign which states "No orders after 12:40", but they are referring to 12:40 AM. Many times when we are leaving UL sporting events, we call an order in and pick it up on the way home.
Plus.... it's THE GREEN OAKS!!! As soon as you walk in the place it's like you've been teleported back to 1981.
As with all things relating to Cajun fans, our taste buds are as varied as our thoughts on every other topic.
