LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Within weeks, a new radio reading service in Lafayette will broadcast local news, grocery deals and other reading materials of regional interest to the visually impaired.

It's been put together by the nonprofit organization Louisiana Audio Information Reading Service - LA-AIRS for short.

The University of Louisiana's public radio station, KRVS, is providing a subcarrier channel. At least 30 receivers for that channel have been donated to visually impaired residents in the area.
