Please, if you disagree, disagree with what I have written. I'm pretty good at writing, and usually you don't need to surmise.
Continue writing because it will take you much to get out this mole hill you turned into a mountain.

And for your hypo, you comparing students who made the deans list with those that barely passed college by the skin on their chinny, chin chin. No amount of extra points would ever be given or even suggested to sway that gpa analysis.

You are the one that over reacted to the mere suggestion then embarked on exaggeration to make your argument.

    Get to writing, my friend.

If it was a molehill before I wrote, it is still a molehill. You wrote that extra credit should be given for attending sporting events. Although you did not specifically state so, you implied that this should be some sort of official university policy. I simply stated that, as an employer, I dd not think this is a good idea. See, isn't that simple?

Please list the company you own or work at so I know to never apply there, if I'm ever unfortunate enough to be unemployed.

I, like many on this board, manage various sizes of personnel as part of my job duties. As a manager I can wholeheartedly disagree about hiring based on GPA. You either graduated with a degree or you didn't......a degree is a degree. I want people who are realistic, able to hold a conversation, think on their feet and most importantly think for themselves. An assigned number based on some assigned metric doesn't hold much weight in my recruitment process. But that's my opinion.

Now, for the second job, I agree, grades don't matter nearly as much. I'm interested in performance. But, until I can measure performance I have to place importance on grades. And, if I thought a university were bumping up grades for attending sports, I'd have to think long and hard about giving interviews to that school's graduate for entry level positions.
Grades are an excellent measure of will the employee apply themselves. Similar to how a College education shows stick-to-itiveness, even if the major doesn't apply.

As far as hiring a sports fan, their analytical skills might be off the chart as compared to book smarts alone.

So giving extra points for showing up
When it’s raining is better? If you are in charge of the interview and you look at that persons grades instead of their presence, self awareness, ideas to move the company forward, Refences etc then you are missing out on good people.

You write well enough, so I assume your reading comprehension is at least adequate. If that is the case, why do you insist on misrepresenting what I have written. I have written very clearly that GPA figures heavily into first hires, and first hires, only. I have also written very clearly that job performance is much more important for subsequent jobs.

In you case, I assume that you have had at least one job for some period of time. That being the case, whether you even have a degree would factor in slightly to not at all, unless there was a legal requirement for college degree with no work experience being permitted as a substitute.

In addition, were Louisiana to have a policy of giving any extra points (even a few) for sports attendance, even a Carnegie Tier 1 rating would not overcome the harm to Louisiana's academic reputation.

Again, if you are going to disagree, please disagree with what I have written and not some straw man.

Holy Moly. Give a rest, fellas. This thread is about the attendance of last night's game, not the hiring practice of Vic and Cov
